Summary
Sixty years ago, Emperor Garmadon took over Ninjago and the age of the Dark Empire began. After years of training, Kai and his companions attempt to finally put a stop to his evil rule, but their mission fails and Kai is the only one left in the ashes of their defeat. He's captured and tortured until the day comes that Emperor Garmadon finds a use for him—to become the personal bodyguard of his only son, Lloyd. Kai agrees with no intention of following through on any of Garmadon's orders, but when he becomes attached to the boy, he starts to believe that with Lloyd there is hope for the future.
But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. With his new life's purpose, to put the boy on a path of good, Kai is faced with the inevitable price of sacrificing his own soul.
All the while, the companions he'd thought long gone work relentlessly to build up a rebellion to face the Empire of the Darkest Night and get revenge for the supposed "death" of their lost friend.

Summary
Long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the First Spinjitzu Master, using the Six Elements of Creation. When he passed away, his two sons continued to protect Ninjago in his place. But the elder brother was consumed by darkness and banished to the Cursed Realm.
Now, after sixteen years of peace, Lord Garmadon escapes his prison and becomes determined to take over Ninjago. And now, six teenagers, including the secret son of Garmadon, are thrown into a mission to restore the Elemental Masters and defeat Garmadon once and for all. Oh, and they have to deal with a prophecy that may or may not end with Lloyd fighting his own father and dealing with a strange power he has zero control over.

Standing outside his shop Malachi gave a solemn look down the hill.
He took in a deep breath as he brought his left hand to dig up the necklace and held onto the cross. His brows furrowed and he pouted as he held in the air.
The sun was almost fully risen, to the right of the village it hung a little over the middle of the skyline. The light blue of the day began showing at the top of the sky, gently resting over the vibrant reds, oranges and pinks of the now fading golden hour.
Looking down the hill, Malachi saw Wu waiting for him, watching the sun.
The boy exhaled and furrowed his eyebrows once more before walking down the hill. -

The original Emperor and Empress - kicked off their thrones - are thought to be dead.Jay's just a so-so pirate who really couldn't care less about the world he flew far away from. Kai and Nya are orphans living just a bit above being considered poor. Cole's a performer, Skylor's a respected assassin who wants a certain princess dead, and Lloyd's the Emperor's son who wants them ALL dead.
And poor Princess Harumi just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Summary
⚠️ PART 2 OF A SERIES, SPOILERS FOR PART 1 BELOW ⚠️
After seventy years of tyranny, Emperor Garmadon has been defeated by the ninja during the rebellion's coup. In the aftermath, Ninjago falls apart into factions, headed by the Rebel Council and the Imperial Governors, each group desperate to gain control of the city in the power vacuum left behind.
Kai, after being captured by the rebellion and cut off from his powers, is tasked with bringing the people together before it's too late. Nya seems to be on his side, but with his old imperial allies imprisoned or missing, and the other ninja having complicated feelings about him, it's begun to feel like she's the only one. And if the threat of the annihilation of humanity wasn't enough motivation for him, he also has Lloyd's safety to worry about, whom the rebels only promise to continue to keep safe if Kai follows their commands.
Meanwhile, Lloyd is being carted across Ninjago by his malicious fiancée and her crew of bastards—with the ominous promise that his father is looking forward to seeing him.
