The boy arched his back and trained his gaze on the Monastery door. If Wu wanted to spend his Day of the Departed drowning in a sea of marigolds and shame, hands clasped before decaying pictures of a student long forgotten, then Lloyd wouldn’t intrude. Maybe the next Day of the Departed would be a kinder one for his Uncle. For the Green Ninja, however, he had no interest in the dead- not when there was too much to be done for the living.
He took a deep breath, then stepped out into the quiet monastery courtyard. One hand reached out to push aside the great doors and reveal the thousand step journey off the mountain. He didn’t give the building or his Sensei a glance back as he shut the door, gaze trained on the dying sun disappearing just below the endless ocean.
The Day Of The Departed was just beginning.
