Summary
There was no hope.
There was no way out of this place. Sans knew that from the depths of his soul- he couldn't escape on his own. But without any way to contact anyone and no knowledge of where he's trapped, all he could do was try to survive... or maybe just hope for death.
No more resets, after all.

Summary
Desperation. It'd make you do things you'd thought incapable of yourself. Fear and anxiety drills and spills out from the frontier of your brain-- all rationale is hazardly thrown out the imaginary window, animal following instinct. Your judgment falls; ticks. Consequently, you make choices you don't usually make, say things not normally said. Can you truly be blamed for simple desperation?
(desperation is one nasty affliction)
Dr. W.D Gaster is bone-tired, to put it plainly. He can sense it deep within his marrow, decreasing his already dubious will to live. Not that he had any to begin with. Too many coffee cups complicate his work desk, paperwork overwhelms the surface. Everything feels out of place-messy-imperfect.
The clock on his computer screen reads 1:55 AM. He sighs quiet-soft, his boney hands scrape and nudge at his skull-head. He should just go home...yet there's so much work to be done.
He has a plan, an idea that could greatly improve monsterkind's chances if he has the willpower. He can't rest now. He will not fail them.
( He's already failed his son. )

Summary
Papyrus knew something was wrong with his brother—people didn't drop their HP Cap for good reasons, after all. But last he'd checked it was much higher than ONE. With terror in his marrow and his brother staying stubbornly silent about whatever was going on, Papyrus decided it was time to call in the cavalry, because he would be damned if he stood back and watched his brother Fall Down and Dust without doing anything.
OR
Papyrus realizes that being on the Surface hasn't helped his brother's crippling depression, because his HP is still 1. So he decides to bring the others in on his brother's stats to try to help.

Apeirophobia: the fear of eternity; endlessness; the infinite.
—
Giving up and starting over feel the same sometimes. It’s difficult for Sans to do either when he can’t let go of the past. It’s difficult for Papyrus to do either when he doesn’t know what that past is, even when it’s rearing its ugly head.
Papyrus’s attempts to stop Sans from lying end up rekindling an old Connection, for better and worse.

Summary
As Kris glared, they noticed the SOUL’s movement was event stranger than normal. It drifted in deliberate curves that almost looked familiar. Was that…?
“S?” Kris whispered and the SOUL bobbed in an affirmative.
Kris had never tried to communicate with the SOUL directly like this. They didn’t want to. But as the SOUL drew an ‘A’ and an ’N’, Kris paused at the next ’S’ in the message.
Slowly, with great deliberation, the SOUL spelled out “HAS ONE HP.”
...
For once, Kris and the Player might be aligned.

Sometimes Frisk has to wonder, how on earth did Sans and Papyrus manage to live on their own as long as they did?

Summary
“i’m doctor w-” he cut himself off, reaching up to grab at his jaw. That wasn’t how he spoke. That had never been how he spoke, not in all his years of life. His hands did the speaking where his mouth did not, and it had been that far too long for him to recall whether he couldn’t or merely didn’t. With the sick feeling of magic rising in his trachea, he attempted to sign, hands trembling nearly too hard to form words.
~
Sans and Papyrus are two halves of a forgotten whole. Sans refuses to let that lost SOUL go.
