Summary
Steve had a load of nicknames: King Steve, The King of Hawkins High, Steve the Hair-Harrington. Most of them revolved around royalty. Mostly because Steve was rich and got whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. Hence, giving him the reputation of a spoiled brat. Steve was almost like your typical 80s movie antagonist. The jerk. The bully. And so on.
While Dustin on the other hand was… not much, actually. The only people who actually knew him were his friends and their siblings and parents. But, Dustin was an absolute chatterbox. Whenever there was talking to be done, Dustin would do the most of it. Though he was loud (and obnoxious at times), he was one of the sweetest people you could ever meet. With a big personality and a heart of gold, you couldn’t help but smile when you looked at the kid. Especially with his red white and blue baseball cap that was practically glued to his curly head.
And yet, somehow, the universe had found a way to pair the two boys together only to blossom an unexpected friendship that would be way more than the two thought.

Mike and Will pull Dustin away from Steve to start their campaign leaving Steve alone in the kitchen to stare out the window. The silence is interuppted by Max setting her glass cup down forcefully clearing her throat, making Steve jump a bit, "What is going on between you and my brother." She says crossing her arms, staring right into Steve like she already knows.
Steve freezes, opening his mouth and closes it before finally speaking, "I don't know what your talking about Max'
Max rolls her eyes, "i'm not an idiot, Dustin told me everything, are you guys like together?" She asks raising one of her eyebrows and Steve blushes,
"Well no not officially."
Max groans, "Oh my god he's such an idiot, seriously? You aren't boyfriends yet?"New title

He was the last one to enter their group. Having not met any of them until the fourth grade, he knew that they shared a deeper bond than one he could ever hope to have with them all.
That didn't make it hurt any less when they excluded him from things.
Which was why when he left Hawkins the summer after everything went down, he was glad. Glad to get away and experience something for himself. Camp Knowhere was something that he experienced on his own. It was a place where almost everyone was meeting for the first time.
Which was why going home was a bit upsetting.
Or Dustin has issues that he refuses to impose on the others but they're determined to be there for him. -
