Malon is sat in the ranch house, mending some clothes late in the evening. Her mind wandering, she can't help but reminisce on things from her childhood, from the now, and from the time the ranch was rescued. When a knock sounds from her front door and one of the very heroes from the rescue is there to greet her, she can't help but cling to every opportunity to keep the sheikah she has fallen for around. What follows is an evening filled with tea, discussions of books and a new-found bond. Will it promise to hold fast, or will it be just as fleeting as midnight?

This is a side story for The Hero in Monochrome, set concurrent with chapter 11. This fic also very much functions as a stand-alone work, however, and doesn't really spoil anything major for THiM. Reading just this, or just THiM is perfectly fine, they just each add a bit of context to one another, that may enhance your over all reading experience.

Sent into the recent past, Link grew up in a small village called Dinad until it was destroyed in the civil war. Link seized the hidden Master Sword in a desperate attempt to save himself, an act that takes him back to the world he left behind: a childhood he thought he'd made up. His future is even more destroyed than the civil war he'd spent the last seven years surviving and still, somehow, he's tasked to save it.
Was Dinad a dream or not? Was any of it real, and will it affect the time he must save now? How much does he remember from a childhood he convinced himself was fantasy so long ago?
But he must remember both to survive the tasks at hand, because his past will always haunt his future.

He smelled of leaves and moss and was dressed in the strange colors of the forest, with a fairy tangled in his curls. Malon had never seen a fairy up close before, and she certainly hadn't seen one so comfortable with a Hylian. Fairies were good omens, bringers of friendship and light, but they were shy, and Malon had never seen one so content to curl up inside a Hylian’s hat-- but the boy wasn’t Hylian, was he? Green clothes, a fairy in his hair… no, this was a fairy child, one who was far, far from home."
