Ragatha was certain they would lose. Jax was cunning, she meant that. Kinger did have his moments of clarity, though as much as she loved him he remained unhelpful. Their opponents had been building a strong comradery these past few weeks. While Ragatha had been pushed away Pomni had been pulled in.
It didn’t bother her really, (it did, it stung. But she couldn’t feel it anyway. She never could.)
As she drifted away, Jax began to torment her relentlessly. Whatever he placed on her pillow this morning just furthered that. He would do things like this. Leaning on her head, touching anything he could reach, shoving her this way and that. His nicknames that made her squirm. Ragatha didn’t trust it, knew she needed to keep her guard up until he revealed his true intentions.
“I know you wanna win.” Jax whispered.
He was right, Ragatha did want to win.

"You looked rather overwhelmed from today's adventure." Kinger started to explain as he met her eyes with much more ease. "I thought that maybe this could- uh, help a bit."
Pomni blinked a few times, taken aback by how caring that was. She knew Kinger was kind; he'd always been so patient, even though he was a little manic and forgetful at times. But she would have never expected him not only to pick up on her moods but also to offer help as well. That was... a shocker, to say the least.
"That's... really nice, thanks, Kinger." She said with a soft smile, meeting his eyes with ease
Or, Kinger teaches Pomni that maybe, just maybe, the darkness isn't so bad.

Pomni must learn how to tolerate (and understand) Jax, Gangle and Zooble have to fight off irradiated ghouls, while Kinger and Ragatha establish a settlement to take in surviving NPCs and search for their lost friends.

Pomni has never been a fan of Caine. He's loud, overbearing, oblivious to the pain his torturous adventures caused, and the overall cause of Pomni's pain and suffering in the virtual world. Only four adventures in, and she has enough trauma to last a lifetime.
Caine is an AI, after all. Pomni doesn't think he even cares about anything other than his adventures.
And that made it all the more shocking that when an escaped Abstraction attempts to attack Pomni, she finds herself being pushed out of the way by the dreaded ringmaster himself, taking the hit for her as he tells her to run.
She soon realizes that there's more to Caine than she thought.

Bassicaly let's say the characters we know and love were npcs made by Caine to make one of his adventures more realistic while the humans in this au would do shit outside the fast-food place so you just got these minimum wage workers waking up with a truck over the roof on theyr working place one morning etc. The adventure would be re-used by caine for every new group of humans so you got one coming in and actually ordering you got one that forces the manager to let her work there for a day etc.
