“You saved my life! Plus you go around fighting monsters and helping people! That's so cool! And you can even talk to me when you're like this.” There was the Minish on a fallen tree in front of Wolfie, arms waving wildly to try and emphasize just how cool he clearly thought the wolf in front of him was.
Four noticed Twilight flinch at that, his ears going flat against his head as the Minish continued to talk about how awesome and nice and fluffy Wolfie was. There was something else going on here, another layer to the conversation Four was missing, but he was still making his way towards the pair, struggling through the tangles of grass that had been flattened on Wolfie's way to his spot. If he could just get past this dumb obstacle he might be able to see just what was making Twilight so upset, and the tight feeling in his chest at how upset he sounded demanded that something be done.
“But . . . Wouldn't ya rather help someone like Four? He can see you guys all the time and . . . He’s a real hero, he ain’t a monster half the time like me.”

Kit’s always been worth it, but it almost broke him. They were both just so lost. After the Calamity was gone, when they could get into a routine and they could live rather than fight to survive, that’s when life finally got easier. It’s also when he could process what he’d lost and then bartered away. He didn’t do it alone, though. He never has. Kit hasn’t ever hesitated to patch him up in return, freely bringing light to his darkest points or just quietly sitting with him when he couldn’t bear to stand. Worth it all, that boy. It’s why he’d argued until he was blue in the face to stay with him, and it’s why he’s not the only one to have been changed. Life got better. Then, of course, the others turned up on their doorstep and their hard-won peace was lost. He’s no Legend, but Twilight deeply dislikes Hylia’s games.

He took a breath and buried his head under his pillow, trying in vain to stifle a sound that wasn’t really there. He couldn’t. He’d barely been home a few weeks, he couldn’t. But the howling kept going. And going. And going. It hummed in his veins, pulsing with the rapid beating of his heart. The memory of a golden wolf sang, and something in Link ached to sing back.

Summary
The newest member of the ragtag group of heroes throughout the ages literally falls from the sky in front of them.
It doesn't take long for them to realize that he's not a fighter like the rest of them, at least not anymore. And that's ignoring the fact that he's a shy nervous wreck who clearly isn't used to being around nine other heroes with questionable social skills.
(AU where Wild is the last to join the Chain and he's not a swordsman like everyone else, but is instead a sorcerer because his chronic pain meant he couldn't fight with an actual sword anymore. He's got a lot of healing to go through with that, and the Chain will help him because he's one of them, even if a sorcerer Link wasn't what they were expecting.)
