Minthara stared, appalled with silence, until the beginning notes of shock and panic compounded into dread, as she realized what was happening.
I want this one.
The words rang in her ears until their echoes became static reverberations, devoid of meaning as her body reacted to what was in front of her. Her end. Her body braced for the impact, heat to purpose, flesh to stone, the anticipatory pain that encompasses metal and blood. It had been ingrained in her sense of self, from years of drow culture to her own interpersonal strifes with family: never close your eyes, never let them see your fear. And yet, she couldn’t help as her eyes opened to the cool sting of metal against her neck. Minthara had blinked and when her eyes refocused, she was greeted by the blood pooling from her company's necks and the harsh reality of her flesh waiting to be reaped.
