“Vox?” Alastor said. “You’re back early!”
Vox tossed his suitcase aside, strolled into the kitchen, and kissed Alastor. “What? Can’t I be early for once? I couldn’t wait to see you, sweetheart.”
Vox comes home early from work to his pretty wife.

“W-welcome back, darli̴ng.” Alastor didn’t look at him; the deer was staring at the floor, hands twisting in the red fabric of his dress. His left wrist was bandaged up, but some blood had seeped through the binding.
Vox hurried inside, taking Alastor’s hand in his own. “Sweetheart, what happened to you!?”
“I- I was making dinner and- and the knife slipped.”
It didn’t look like a just a slip of the knife; the damage was to the wrist, not the fingers. This was not how people usually cut themselves cooking. Vox bit his lip. Had Alastor tried to hurt himself again? Vox had thought his wife was past that now. “... you need to be more careful, precious.”
What starts as a normal evening ends in disaster.

The first and only time Vox hypnotizes Alastor they’re eight years into this almost-something, into this dancing-around-it. So, eight years in he starts to have an almost-compulsive thought, something he wakes up to and goes back to sleep with.
The opportunity presents itself when Alastor pops in his department, a hurricane of energy and movement, giddy about some deal he made, about this other-overlord Vox stopped paying attention to, the moment Alastor reached out to trace a finger over his screen, demanding attention when he turned to look for the nice whiskey he knows Alastor likes.
So, Vox says:
“You want me.”

Vox realizes at the most inopportune moment possible that he is still quite pathetically gone for Alastor, and thus saves his life—in exchange for a deal. Alastor, on the other hand, strives to be inopportune at all possible moments, and thus learns what he is willing to sell in exchange for his own life. After all, "love" can be interpreted in so many different ways.

Eventually, Viktor stops even trying. He'll reach for an orange and roll it about mindlessly on the table top for a few minutes as he thinks, or ponders a particularly challenging runic equation. He'll roll one of them back and forth between his palms as he stands at the chalkboard, eyes raking over their scrawled notes and diagrams. And sometimes, he simply grabs an orange out of their dwindling supply, and plops it next to Jayce's elbow without a word. In all cases, the wordless request is there; and every time, Jayce takes up the orange, peels it, and sets it back on Viktor's side of the table. Often--not always, but often enough--he'll get a quick smile from Viktor, a duck of his head in thanks, before he goes back to whatever he was working on or talking about.
Sometimes, he pushes the orange back to Jayce's side, and Jayce realizes that he has not in fact eaten yet that day.

His eyes fly open when he doesn’t hear a response. If it were anyone else, he’d imagine they would have stood up and walked out of there without a second thought. Would have probably laughed in his face before they left, too. Maybe Viktor is different. Maybe he just really wants to suck his dick.
That’s just cocky, Jayce. Twenty in the Douche Bag jar, per Caitlyn’s rules.
But his declaration seems to get a rise out of Viktor because he looks up to him from down on his knees with a humorous glint in his eyes. A cheap chuckle comes from below.
“This is… this is just me broadening my horizons, you know,” Jayce adds, just to be safe. “Drunken fun is all.”
“Broadening your horizons,” Viktor says flatly. “Whatever you say, birthday boy.”
