Self-consciously, Ingo covered his mouth. It was such a minor thing but it caused him no end of grief. The standard wind-up solider was made with a sweet smile. By mistake, Ingo’s smile had been flipped, and he’d been carved with a perpetual frown instead.

Well, not exactly; when most use the phrase to refer to a short allotted time period, knowledge of their sudden, uncontrollable event, it is told to them recently, hence of course, the phrase, borrowed time.It’s a bit different when you know what that exact event is, the specifics of your mission, but never when it will take you. Therefore of course, your life is borrowed time, making the most of what you have, never aware of when it’s stripped from you.
It’s a laborious existence.
What does one do when they know they’re going to disappear? How do you make the most of a life that is never truly yours to control, to keep?
Well, they forget about it.

Summary
After living in Hisui for three and a half years (as part of a clan that lived in cold climates), Ingo had to learn what has to happen when summer ends. He returned to where he belongs on the first warm night of that spring, signaling that summer would soon come, and he’s been recovering relatively well for the last seven or so months. With almost all of his memories back, his family, his job, he knows that things are different now but he still finds himself facing a lot of anxiety as fall goes on. He knows food will not be an issue but his body doesn’t seem to believe him.
A pretty short submas oneshot written in one sitting <3

In Donatello's world, there were a few constants:
1: Don't leave leftovers at the table unless you're fine with Leo/Mikey/Raph licking the plate clean.
2: Every Saturday, you will engage in your thumb war with Leo for eldest twin rights. And you will WIN this time, because a four week losing streak is just embarrassing.
And 3: Donatello was the most intelligent being to ever live.
While that may be hubris--Donnie wouldn't deny that--the softshell had examined all the records, taken all the online tests, had even hacked into a few Korean colleges, and as far as Donnie could tell, his brain took the cake.
Therefore, every decision he made was the inarguable RIGHT DECISION. It was just logic. And, yes, that was including his decision to bring that oozesquito he'd found into his lab for a little studying. The bite he'd gotten was... just an outlier. And besides, nothing had happened. He was already mutated anyway; the mutagen was ineffective.
Sure, yeah, his health had rapidly declined in the two days since then, but... there was NO WAY that had anything to do with that.
Because Donnie was smarter than that.
And everything would be... fine.

Ingo, aka the villain Smokestack, is thrilled to be able to spend time with Emmet, the brother he no longer remembers. It's revolutionary, how he can be "Emmet's brother" instead of only "Smokestack". Still, Ingo can't help but worry that the ways he's changed or the fact that he’s a villain now will drive Emmet away. But he'll enjoy getting to know his brother again for as long as he's able.
Emmet, aka the hero Eelektross, is overjoyed to spend time with Ingo, the brother he thought he lost. Even though the whole "hero and villain" thing really complicates matters. Emmet believes wholeheartedly in Ingo's goodness, but reconciling that with how he understands heroics and villainy is no simple task.
Ingo and Emmet may have carved out a space to share despite the odds, but the peace they've found is fragile. Emmet's secret identity hangs over their heads, and the shadow of the Hero Commission looms.
Nothing lasts forever, after all.
