Somebody had been lurking in the hallway.

Summary
Edward Teach has never been happier. He has a successful career built on more than just his work in erotica, he's married to the love of his life, and they're both working to create something to give back to the community. For the first time in his life he has a real home filled with a found family, two cats and has begun to feel whole for the first time in his life.
Stede finds his calling as a lawyer and the ability to find strength in himself as he realizes that he has untold depths when it comes to helping people in need. He begins to feel like he really is adequate, especially with his own found family and his husband supporting him.
But every peaceful lull can have storms on the horizon, and one is building with his eyes set on Stede and the life he's made for himself.

Still, there’s a charm to it, now that she’s looking closer. His eyes crease at the corners when he laughs at Ed’s (probably very lame) jokes, and she can sort of see why Ed finds him cute. Pretty, even. Pretty likely to be a good face to sit on. He’s broad and sturdy, too; solid in a way that makes her suspect his non-existent ass could take a good beating.

Which is to say, he doesn’t do a double take, but it’s a close approximation, and his eyes, drawn against his best judgment, keep finding their way back to the man for just one more look, just to see if he’s as beautiful as Stede’s quick glances said he was.
