Hayden wasn’t the type to invade someone’s privacy, but seeing Shane reduced to a ghost was wearing him down. He picked up the phone, his fingers trembling slightly as he searched for the contact “Lily.” The phone rang once, twice, three times.
Then, the line clicked. But there was no "Hello?"
“This is Ilya. I never check my voicemail.”
Hayden pulled the phone away from his ear, staring at the screen as if it had just exploded. The name still read Lily. But the voice… the voice was low, gravelly, with that Russian accent he’d been hearing scream across the ice for years.
“Rozanov?” Hayden whispered. “What the hell…”

Summary
Ilya breaks things off with Shane right before a Boston v. Montreal game. Shane does not take it well and tries to convince Ilya to change his mind. But when Marleau injures Shane in the game, Shane thinks Ilya orchestrated the hit to send a message that things are really over between them. Despite Ilya trying to explain that he had nothing to do with it, Shane now sees Ilya as his true rival.
Ilya doesn't love that Shane hates him, but thinks that maybe it will make it easier to let him go. Until Scott Hunter kisses his boyfriend after winning the cup and changes the game. Now Ilya is determined to change the rival narrative and win Shane back.

It was a dirty hit; they all knew it. Ilya, devastated by Shane's injuries that left him semi-conscious in a hospital bed, learns what it means to have a family and what "for better or worse" meant in his wedding vows. His days are full of misunderstandings with his mother-in-law, panic, caring for his husband, and seeing his team step up for his family in times of injury.
Or: Shane gets a concussion, breaks his ankle, Ilya is a Very Good Husband (and a very angry captain), the Centaurs step up, and Anya is a very protective pup.

Wyatt’s gaze flicked from Hollander to Rozanov – who looked absolutely delighted with this turn of events – and back again. “You two follow playoff traditions as well then?”
Hollander shrugged, still catastrophically casual, “I mean, when we played on different teams we sort of had to. Conflict of interests and all that. But I meant more generally. You know what it’s like, right?”
Wyatt wasn’t sure that he did, and was suddenly very conscious of the fact that he might not be in the least bit emotionally prepared for whatever was about to come out of Hollander’s mouth.
“Like, the other day,” Hollander continued, seemingly unaware of the proverbial bombshell he was about to drop. “Ilya tied me up and edged me for…was it two hours?”
“Three, moyo solnyshko,” Rozanov corrected, sounding like Christmas, his birthday, and the Easter Bunny had all come at once.
Shane Hollander joins the Centaurs, and the team discovers that their Captain might be a certified menace, but his husband is so, so much worse.
