Summary
Business magnate Uther Pendragon has died, and his son is horrified to learn that he had properties filled with furniture, art, and books. One property's library is filled with rare and antique books, prompting Gaius to call in Merlin Emrys, an expert on the matter who can help appraise the collection.
Arthur is forced to stay in the middle of nowhere in Belgium with Merlin and Gaius while this gets sorted. He can deal with his godfather, but the bookseller irritates him to no end. He is absolutely not at all interested in the insolent man.

This is a romantic comedy about Arthur dealing with grief, an egg-smashing bookseller, his batty godfather, and coping with being stuck in the middle of Belgium with all three of those things.

“I already told him my boyfriend is a biologist by the name of Marvin who works in a science lab studying animals.”
“I’m touched you modelled your fake boyfriend after me, but I’m a cryptozoologist studying magical creatures. And my name is not Marvin.”
“I’ll tell him he misheard.”Uther wants to see his son married. Arthur doesn't want to marry any of the women he's set up with (or any woman at all). Merlin agrees to a stupid, stupid plan.

Summary
Everyone apart from Arthur thinks Merlin is a sweetheart who wouldn't hurt a fly. Arthur knows better, though. Merlin is the sort of person who thinks it perfectly reasonable to store jars of pickled eyeballs in Arthur's wardrobe.
It is a shame that these personality flaws haven't been enough to prevent Arthur from falling hopelessly in love with Merlin but on the bright side at least he's been trained from birth to never give in to his baser feelings so nobody (least of all Merlin) need ever know.

Arthur was at his wits' end when he caught Merlin walking out of the tavern, which led him to make a horrible mistake, one that proved to be the last straw for Merlin, who decided there was nothing else to do but publically quit his job and leave Camelot in a huff.
Arthur never realized how much Merlin did for him-- or for Guinevere-- until he was gone; neither he nor his wife realized just how integral Merlin was to Camelot... and to their marriage.

xxArthur shook his head again, interrupting before Gwaine could break the flow of his speech, a little afraid that if he didn’t get it all out, he would never have the guts to. “I’m going to free him. After we find the fomorrah and kill it, I’m going to let him leave. Maybe he’ll go back to Ealdor, maybe somewhere else.”
Gwaine’s eyes were wide, “Surely, you’re not serious.”
Arthur squeezed his eyes shut. “You’ve always been his.” Gwaine looked a little like child who had been caught doing something he shouldn’t, but he said nothing while Arthur continued. “Your loyalty has always been to him. Can I ask you this one last thing? Go with him, wherever he goes, I can’t bear the thought of him being hurt.”
“He will be safe here,” Gwaine said, softly.
“But will he be happy?”
