Talon wonders what it's doing here alone. Humans this size tend to be well protected by their nest mothers and fathers. Has the little one wandered off?
Talon coos again, scooting a little closer.
No matter. The tiny human will go cold if Talon leaves it here, and unlike with Talon, humans do not become warm again once they’ve been cold.

He didn’t know what was happening, only that his system was failing, shutting down piece by piece, like his body had finally decided to give up on him. Tears burned his eyes as he cried, helpless, the sound swallowed by the silence of the room.
Anger twisted inside him, sharp as the wounds themselves. He hated himself for being so stubborn, for refusing to ask for help when he’d needed it most. Why couldn’t he have swallowed his pride? Why did he always push everyone away?
The helplessness was familiar, too familiar. It dragged him back to that warehouse floor years ago, the cold concrete beneath him, the certainty of death pressing down. “Just focus on you and Timmy, all right? I’m the oldest. I won’t let anything happen to you guys.” He wrapped the arm not already holding Tim around Jason and tugged him down so he would lay with them. Dick didn’t plan to sleep a wink, but Jason didn’t need to go sleepless. “It’ll be okay, Jay. I’ll take care of us.”

It would have been an easy kill, under better circumstances, except Talon didn’t know that his target somehow possessed combat skills that could rival even the oldest and most deadly Talons in the compound. Talon never stood a chance.

He’d bled out. He knew he had. If the batarang didn’t rip him away from this world on its own, then the bomb should have finished the job, and it did. Jason felt himself slip away. Once you’ve experienced death, there is no mistaking the sensation for anything else. Everything had been carried out the way it was supposed to, so how?
Jason didn’t leave the apartment for nine days. He ate canned ravioli and watched reruns of news footage covering the showdown with Joker, who had landed back in Arkham without a scratch on him. Batman saved the day again, folks. Red Hood was off the streets. Ding dong, the witch was dead.
Most hoped that the Hood was gone for good, either slain by the clown or scared away by the Batman. Either way, good riddance. Black Mask was still alive and kicking, regrettably, the fuckin’ cockroach.
And, more regrettably, so was Jason.
