An AU where instead of Ghost being able to help and save Soap (and a little future vision within soap.) in Las Almas after the Graves betrayal Soap is captured and taken by a few cartel members who resided in the shadows of Las Almas. Soap is marked as MIA and this destroys Ghost from the inside as he knew he wanted to confess his love to Soap after he went to save him. Soap after his capture is stripped of his gear leaving him stuck in the dark dimmed cell with no knowledge of where he is and is genuinely scared as he doesnt have ghost looking over him from a sniper scope or have any comms for help. He does however has his journal which he uses to write notes that he knows ghost will never see.

Somehow, war felt easier than this. “Leah, give your brother back his toy,” He commands softly, picking up Sophie from her rocker.
Leah yells out, “But I want it!”
“Yes,” Soap says, making his way to the door, “I understand but you snatched it from his hands. You have plenty of other toys you can play with.”
“No! I want this one.”
Alec sobs louder and Soaps head feels like it’s about to explode. Sophie needs to get fed, he’s aware. But right now so much is going on. How the hell did his sister do this?
“Leah-“ He’s cut off as he trips over a Lego set. He starts hopping on one foot, just inches from the door and has to bite his lips to stop himself from cursing. Sophie screams at the top of her lungs.
“I know,” He coos, “I’m sorry. I’ll get you fed in a moment.”
He adjusts her and throws open the door. On the other side is the last person he’d ever expect to see.

And those were words that Ghost chose to live by. He has lost enough and refuses to lose anymore. So he lets nothing and no one close to him, until Soap slips through the cracks and the unstable foundation of Ghost begins to crumble. Ghost will do anything in his power to keep him safe and alive, even if it means never seeing Soap ever again. But best laid plans often go astray, and this is no different.
