Wyatt’s gaze shot up and it was like one of those moments in a fucking movie or something.
Because the person bursting through the door like an absolute tornado at two in the morning was Shane Hollander. The man looked sweaty. And breathless. And panicked. No, haunted. His eyes were wide and tortured, chest heaving like he’d run here from Canada.
What was he doing here in Tampa and not in Canada?
Oh. OH. Oh shit.

Summary
The hot mic incident was just the beginning.
Now the internet watches in real-time as Ilya’s Spotify playlist gets leaked (with NOTES), Shane attempts subtlety (narrator: he fails), they bicker about boy bands on late night TV, someone admits to having a ring for six months ON TWITTER, and approximately 20 different social media platforms collectively lose their goddamn minds.
Featuring: journalists having breakdowns, Reddit threads that require moderator intervention, TikTok compilations with 1.2M views, brand partnerships from Skittles, a plague of engagement speculation, and two hockey players who cannot stop being chaotic disasters on main.
The fandom was writing fic about them. Turns out reality is messier, queerer, and somehow MORE unhinged.

“Cliff,” Rozanov said.
Interesting. He only ever used his first name when he wanted something.
“I need a favour.”
Called it.
“What can I do for you, Roz?”
“I need you to punch me.”
Cliff stared. He stared some more.
"Why?"
“Shane hasn’t let me fuck him since the bar, it’s been too long and he always rides me when I have to see the medics.”
A beat.
Another beat.
Then Cliff absolutely lost it.
Or5 times people clocked Shane and Ilya being absolutely unhinged about each other and the 1 time it was encouraged.

Then, something weird happens. Something that Ilya can’t understand in the beginning, the way Shane’s smile drops and the arousal flickers off for a second—not enough time for him to understand it completely, but, well. He has been fucking Shane Hollander for years. Ilya knows his tells, and his boundaries by now, although some of them have been complicated to gather because he likes having them stepped on, sometimes. But this is not like when he says Ilya, don’t suck me off while I’m on the phone. This is something else. This is something that makes Ilya scared.

What if instead of walking in on Shane and Ilya making out, what if David came across Ilya alone at the Cottage?
***
“I’m David. Hollander. Shane’s dad.”
Ilya genuinely couldn’t figure out what the fuck to do. He needed to send out an SOS, but he had set his phone down somewhere and had no idea if it was in the sunroom, bedroom, or bathroom, and wasn’t about to go dash around to hunt it down. And as hard as he wracked his brain, he couldn’t come up with a single plausible explanation for his presence in Shane’s summer home other than, “I’m in love with your son. We have been fucking since we were teenagers. We have a ten year plan.”
Instead, what he choked out was, “Sorry. No English.”

"So, an inside date?"
"Yes. I googled."
"You googled?" Shane sounds skeptical, even though Ilya knows that Shane knows how much Ilya loves a good google search.
"Yes. I searched 'HELP how to plan romantic Valentine's Day with secret arch rival hockey player boyfriend when we can't leave his home and also he is very boring.'"
"You did not."
"Okay," Ilya admits, kissing the curve of Shane's shoulder, "That was not my exact search."

Ilya: Oh, good. Shane loves questions. He has a million for every possible situation. Are you sure you don’t want him to lead the interview?
Shane: Fuck you, Rozanov.
Harris: Glad we got that out of the way early.

Summary
Shane's brought Ilya to his cottage, which means something, doesn't it? And whether it's a test, or an experiment, or an audition - Ilya is determined he will triumph. By any means necessary.
*
Relentlessly explicit companion piece to rush&roulette; another missing scene, this time from the heart of the cottage, from Ilya's POV. Revisiting that specific request of Shane’s because now, everything is different.
*
Excerpt:
He smiled at Shane’s startled look, moving in close, overriding any objection with a kiss. He'd show him. Come on. What did he expect? Bring Ilya to an isolated house of glass, he was going to be pressing Shane against every damn window.
He crowded him with deliberate intent, squeezing Shane's chest and pushing him back. Kissing his mouth, his neck. Trying to tell him with his lips and tongue that he was here, they were here; that what they had was sunlit and sober and real and worthy.

Ilya, golden-haired and laughing on the ice. Ilya, his eyes glinting with smoldering, amorous desire. Ilya, fast asleep, curled up next to him, his mouth open, drooling on the pillow.
Even when they fight, Shane will occasionally have to bite back that knee-jerk reaction of want, that sharp pang of need that rises when Ilya gets so annoyed he slips into Russian, when he throws his head back, his curls rustling, and gestures at Shane like, can you believe this shit?
Shane doesn't think he'll ever get tired of looking at him, of soaking him in. What a relief it is to be able to.

Summary
Under the guidance of his doctor and mostly out of desperation due to his last annual heat being severe enough to nearly land him in the hospital, Shane Hollander knows he needs to take a heat partner for the first time if he doesn’t want to end up in a cycle facility.
With his options between hiring a comfort alpha or asking one Ilya Rozanov for help, the choice is clear to Shane. Even if it feels like he’s losing every shred of his dignity to ask his - rival? fuckbuddy? - whatever Rozanov is to help him through his heat, Rozanov is the only alpha he trusts enough to take care of him.
Rozanov is due for his own rut and is more than happy to finally, finally have heat sex with Hollander. Which is why he says yes with no hesitation. No other reason, of course.
Now they both just need to survive the week with their hearts intact, which is something far easier said than done. -

Summary
It’s not going viral because Jane’s true identity was exposed—or even because Ilya was blatantly sexting in public. That part’s as expected as Shane doing yoga or any human being on earth breathing.
No, the texts are going viral because no one can believe how bad this “Jane” is at sexting.
The women of the world are outraged. The men of the world are baffled. No one can understand why Ilya Rozanov, whose abs have their own fan club, is wasting his time on ‘a piece of cardboard that wished to be turned into a real girl’ (this particular joke has 300k likes and counting).
Or: After a social media trend mocks Shane's sexting skills, he tries to improve them. It goes about as poorly as you'd expect.
