Summary
(Fic re-edited and re-posted. It will be updated as I edit the chapters. PLEASE read the Note at the start for clarification and info and please do give the fic time to build, it is a little misleading at the beginning, for good reason.)
When Thor was banished from Asgard after creating trouble with the Jotun, he stayed on Earth. Loki on the other hand, took over Asgard in lieu of the Odinsleep, and, surprisingly, turned out to be a wise leader.
Meanwhile, Thor, unable to figure out mortal life beyond fighting and conflict, becomes a private military contractor, shipped over to the most dangerous conflict zones in the world, and in the process, finally understands who he is, and what he represents. He thinks of Loki often and he thinks about the things he never told him, the touches that almost were. And, from the shadows, Loki is watching him, yearning for him in silence, restrained and unrestrained, both of them held in shackles by words that were never said.
Then one day in the midst of a gunfight, something shatters and they are both forced to look at the pieces of what they've broken.Canon divergence starting from the first Thor movie, when Agent Coulson asks Thor if he is military.

Inspired by that one line of banter where Astarion says that he pictured his return to Baldur's Gate to include days of hedonistic debauchery and Gale says that it sounds like a recipe for disaster but he is starting to enjoy the taste of chaos.

The question startled Gale, who looked up from where he sat cross-legged in front of his tent, organizing his scrolls in preparation for their upcoming “visit” to the goblin camp. He’d given Astarion a wide berth since the revelation of his vampiric condition a few days earlier, so he was surprised to see the pale elf looming over him now, a peculiar expression on his face.
“You know,” Gale offered with a smile, “in my extensive journeys across manifold realms, I do believe that is not a question that I’ve ever been asked before. I honestly can’t decide whether or not I should be offended.”

Of the many side effects Gale has faced as a result of his whole “being physical host to an imminently destructive magical orb” problem, he somehow never anticipated his blood now apparently smelling irresistible to vampires (or at least, one particular vampire) to be one of them.

A MUST READ!!!! I will never tire of this story. It's remarkable for its realistic setup with the end of a marriage and the feelings and thoughts that accompany it. Brilliant characterizations and the banter was top notch.

Running on a beach, once, the salty smell of water, the grains of sand between his toes. Waves crashing lazily on the shore in a slow rhythm, the warm light of the sun carressing his face, and then slapping him hard, red skin, burning and frustration, his features feeling tight and dry, cells flaking off his forehead, a cold, wet towel patting his face and soft hands applying lotion.
It's faded and blurry but it's his, his memory to treasure and cherish and showcase in glass. He hasn't thought about it in years, since before everything, before Jackie, before things got out of control and Night City swallowed him whole.

The door opened. The figure that emerged was short and clad in the red of the Bajoran militia, with a bag slung across her shoulder.
“Colonel Kira,” Garak said. “This is an unexpected surprise. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Kira didn’t return his smile. “We need to talk, Garak. It’s about Julian.”

After the war, Section 31 comes after Julian. Someone really should have alerted Garak sooner, but now that he knows, he's not letting him go without a fight. Neither is Miles, Kira, or Jake, for that matter.
