Summary
Tim rides his bike, his small legs aching and his breath a ragged gasp by the time he reaches Gotham City proper. His legs shake and his heart slams as he steps off his bike, adrenaline shooting through him as he sees the dark buildings looming overhead and seriously questions whether or not this was a good idea.
Then the screaming starts. It’s distant, accompanied by the sounds of explosions and a loud voice declaring some villain or other as the new ruler of Gotham, but Tim doesn’t care about any of that.
He creeps closer, keeping to the shadows and hugging the side of the nearest building despite the grime which rubs off on his small white hands and the rough brick that catches and tears at his soft clothes. The screaming grows louder.
Tim closes his eyes and remembers. It hurts, but it feels good.
He can’t stop poking at it.

Gotham is a hellhole—a hostile, nigh-uninhabitable, virtually airless nightmare of a planet located within the outer corona of its glaring red sun. No one in their right mind ever goes to Gotham of their own free will.
To Tim, it’s home. Right now, fighting for his life against an armored, faceless warbot as it bears him mercilessly to the cold steel floor of Titan Station, he desperately wishes he were home.
“Why are you attacking me?” he chokes out. “You’re the Red Hood. We should be working together—we have the same goal—”
The dim emergency lighting in the corridor flickers and reflects eerily off the smooth red surface of Red Hood’s helmet as he pauses, staring down at Tim. “You think we’re the same?” he says softly, his gauntlet tightening slightly around Tim’s throat.
“You really think you are anything like me? Pretender, you have no idea what I’ve had to do to survive.” He chuckles, an awful sound that sends a shudder through Tim.

Summary
Tim sighs, turning back to the Sisyphean task of trying to keep up with all the dishes a restaurant as popular as this one apparently generates in one night. He’s starting to maybe see why this position was available despite the competition to work at such an elite location.
Some of the giddy excitement with which he began his shift fades as he realizes the drudgery of the job he’s been given. It doesn’t help that he keeps remembering the contemptuous look on Jason’s face, along with Damian’s harsh words and Bruce’s apparent indifference.
Well, that probably could have gone better. Then again, what did I expect? Of course it’s not easy to get close to Batman and his partners—even in their civilian roles. Maybe I can still win them over.

He has to know that’s not all. But he’s asking anyway, to get as much information as possible out of the villain before they’re left to their own devices. It’s what they’ve all been trained to do.
Tim squeezes his eyes shut, knowing what Joker is going to say. Knowing exactly what the evil madman is planning to do.
Damn it. Damn it all to hell, not here, not now. Not like this.

I couldn’t find it in the van.” At Tim's revealing blush, his boyfriend raises an eyebrow and then begins to smirk. “Oh, Baby Bird… Don’t tell me you forgot my sleepin’ bag. Have you been bad?” The big man leans a little closer to him to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth, then nibbles along his jaw and murmurs, “Guess we’ll just hafta bite the bullet and share… Such a damn shame.”

“Oh my god,” Dick whimpers from right beside them. “No.”

“We know you’re awake, dumbass—the computer readings gave it away like five minutes ago,” a deep voice says, sounding amused.
Tim opens his eyes. “Oh,” he says, taking in what looks like an ordinary, if cramped, medbay. He doesn’t waste much time on his surroundings because most of his attention is immediately focused on the people standing nearby, both of whom are staring openly at him.
The tall, muscular woman with bright green eyes and a tumultuous mane of flowing red hair spilling all the way to the floor smiles at him, her orange skin seeming to glow with an inner light. “Greetings,” she says brightly. “You are now our prisoner. If you attempt to harm any aboard this ship, I will feed you to a Kraalian crotch-worm.”
He blinks, trying not to wince. “Ah.” It doesn’t seem like there’s much to say to that. “Okay?”
The big guy with vivid teal eyes, an arresting white streak in his black hair, and muscles practically bursting out of his shipsuit, snorts. “She means it. Seriously, don’t push her.”

“Fuck, I need coffee,” Jason mutters as he waits in the short line.
“There’s a great place upstairs that always gives me an extra shot of espresso if I ask.” It takes Jason a moment to realize the comment is coming from the young man in front of him.
“Yeah?” he asks with a bit of interest. Coffee usually isn’t his thing, but at this time of day, he’s reconsidering his stance on that.
“Uh-huh!” The young man says with so much enthusiasm that Jason wonders just how much coffee he’s already had this morning. He looks like he’s just rolled out of bed and tossed on whatever he found before heading out the door.
If he cleaned up a bit, he’d probably be good looking.
