What hubris to think he could somehow stall Hoolay. Jiaoqiu should have known that him trying to save anyone would be futile. In the end, his failed attempt to help will just end up making things worse instead.

“My crush?” Aventurine repeated, his tone was teasing but she noticed the way it slightly shook. He put his shades over his eyes before turning back to her, “Thought you were more mature than to use such elementary terms, let alone believe in love, but you prove me wrong, Miss Topaz.”

Topaz had always felt apprehensive around Aventurine, but after getting a glimpse of his true demeanor underneath that self-confident exterior of his, she starts to understand him better. Thus, begins her secret mission to get him and the unknowing catalyst of their friendship, Dr. Ratio, together.

Aventurine makes it out of the abyss - and into a different world. Things are different here - simpler. There are no Aeons, no intergalactic factions and corporations, no Paths and Blessings. He is not naïve enough to assume that there is no cruelty and discrimination here - for there always is - but for the most part, everything is peaceful.
Here, Aventurine's priorities are getting people's coffee orders right. Fairly straight forward, if you ask him.
Except for the bit where he is surrounded by too many familiar faces, and they remind him of a place he can no longer return to. That's okay. People come and go, and so will they.
Except for the bit where they come and go and come back.
AKA. Aventurine gets dropped into a coffee-shop AU with all the memories from before. He's handling things until he's not handling things. That's okay, because he still has friends (and Dr Ratio) in this world. He just doesn't know it yet.

I love this so much (huge essay incoming with potential spoilers idk)
The plot of penacony has always revolved around the question on why does life slumber and I liked reading all the different answers to it so I'm glad that fanworks have also addressed this, makes it all feel like it did actually fit into the game despite this being an AU.
Additionally, the way the story was told leaves me desiring for more everytime I finish a chapter (thankfully I found the fic when it finished). This fic managed to balance character relationships so well while making sure that everyone stays in character. The way the vocabulary and language is manipulated to make readers (or me, I love stories where the plot is a character learning to be loved, also excuse me suddenly slipping in Literature analysis because school) feel is amazing, the different experience between POVs caught me really off guard (but in a good way)
Overall, amazing read!! I've never considered sending fanfics to my friend who doesn't read fics in general (or, well, any friend whether they read fanfics or not) but I'm seriously thinking of sharing this one simply because of how well-written it is.
I've also never wrote like a book report thing in my bookmarks but I really wanted to talk about the fic so =]
