“Yashenka moy,” Robby murmured, leaning his head against him.
Jack’s answer came immediately: “Mishenka moy.”
My Jack. My Robby.
They were words that had been spoken thousands of times: whispered into necks, exchanged over traumas, said across rooftop railings. It meant: I’m here. I’ve got you. You’re not alone. It’s just us. Take my hand. We’re in this together. It's you and me.
Simply put, it meant: I love you.

Michael left on his sabbatical almost six weeks ago now. The ER hasn't been the same without him. Jack wouldn't say they were friends. They were so much more. Doctors rarely have real friends, only classmates or coworkers you bond with like stray dogs. And they really were strays when they first met. Jack had just returned from Afghanistan with a new leg, one that he knew would never truly feel like it was part of him, and wasn't ready to stop being a medic. So, he got his bachelor's degree and went to medical school. Jack befriending Michael was unusual, as Michael is five years older than Jack and was in his last year of medical school when Jack entered his first.
What would happen if Robby actually accomplished the reason he went on his sabbatical? How would it affect Jack Abbot and Dana Evans?
