During the early days of his career, a bad experience at the airport turns Lightning off of international flights. This poses a bit of a problem when he accepts an invitation to the World Grand Prix, but this time around, he doesn’t have to go it alone.

He finally glanced over at the kid to find Lighting rolling his eyes. “You’re still on that? Come on, Doc, it’s not a big deal. It’s over now, anyway.”
“You celebrated my birthday,” Doc countered. “I can’t celebrate yours? I wasn’t aware that’s how things worked these days.”
Doc finds out it's Lightning's birthday and a full-blown party ensues, Radiator Springs style. Though there seems to be something more beneath the surface of Lightning's protests, the town is determined to make it the best celebration ever.

Summary
If looks could kill… Well, Doc knew someone would’ve been lying cold on the floor by now.
“Whatever he has to say can either wait till later,” Lightning began, clearly doing his best to keep the irritation at bay, “or can go into voicemail.”
Doc managed to keep his voice casual despite his almost overwhelming curiosity. “Who is it?”
With a quick flick of the wrist, Lightning threw the phone down the short hall and into the back bedroom.
“Harv,” he explained as he joined the group again. “My agent.”
Barely a week after the tiebreaker race, Lightning is whisked off to do post-season interviews and commercials. When Doc joins him in Florida for a televised interview, he begins to see that perhaps the kid’s agent isn’t as good for him as Lightning might think.

Finally stopping on all fours, Doc was able to take in the crushed heap that was now the 95.
“Kid, you alright?” During the crash, there was nothing but static on the headset. Now there was nothing. Complete silence.
“You gotta say something, kid. Tell me you’re alright.” The silence on the other side of the headset made Doc’s heart stop. It’d be different if he could at least hear his breathing but there was nothing.

Monty silenced it quickly, thumb hovering over the decline button. “Ignore it,” he muttered. “He’s just checking in.”
Doc said nothing, but he filed it away. Harv had a way of “checking in” that always left the kid looking like he’d just run ten laps and lost them all.

Its always been hard for me to explain the relationship I have with my immediate family, so I wrote this to help me figure it out.

After all, you can remember the yelling, screaming fights that ended in tears and isolation.
Remember the days you wouldn’t leave your room to avoid the tension underlying every step.
It is so easy to hate her, remember her as the monster that loomed above you, the one who denied you, hurt you.
