Summary
When Dennis agreed to cover shifts for Dr. Mohan on the night shift, he didn't think he would ever end up here. Kidnapped from the ambulance bay, his head pounding, and having to save the life of a man with limited medical supplies. That was supposed to be it. Somehow, he finds himself snatched up off a sidewalk, in the stables, in front of his home. There were no sacred spaces when you proved your worth.
In the middle of it all, Dennis is confused by the way Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbot are circling him. The way they'd reach out and brush their fingers against his skin. The way they made sure he ate, got rest, and stayed safe. It made him ache with something he hadn't felt in a long time.

Warmth radiated off her body as their shoulders nearly brushed, the med student catching a glance at the chart in Cassie's hands with a furrowed brow, as if she were trying to find the source of Cassie's discomfort between the papers.
Cassie's breathing hitched. Her eye falling down to the stretch of Victoria's exposed neck, slightly damp with sweat, glistening under the fluorescents. Honing in on the way her pulse pushes against her veins, a steady rhythm that Cassie heard thunderously loud from the proximity."
OR: Vampire Cassie McKay can't hold back from the enticing scent of Victoria Javadi's blood. And that's becoming a bit of a problem.

All heads turn towards the woman speaking, including Victoria’s. It’s the first time she’s hearing her voice.
The woman seems to think her words over before actually carrying on. “Well, as you guys know… I’m a doctor. My job is being against death. But if I had the chance to take away someone’s pain, or give them a chance at life even at the cost of my own…” She looks right at Victoria. “… I’d take it.”

Summary
Dennis Whitaker was, for all intents and purposes, dead. At least that was what his family thought anyways. The reality was much more complicated. Death insinuated peace and thanks to his maker, Dennis never got that.
Or
AU where Dennis gets turned into a vampire in 1925, when he is starting his first year of Medical school, leaving behind his estranged (very queer) wife, their child, and a family who regrets his existence. Dennis disappears and is presumed dead. A funeral is held, time passes, and he is entirely forgotten. After a century of fighting in wars, traveling the world, and living off blood, he realizes that life has lost all meaning and he needs to do something. That something includes becoming a med student in Pittsburgh, and starting rotations at PTMC, or the Pitt, as his new (very attractive) attending, Dr. Michael Robinavitch, likes to call it. Unfortunately for him, ghosts are always ready to drag him to hell, and the last thing he wants is to drag Robby down with him. -

A firm hand on his shoulder, thumb pressing down on the back of his neck, rubbing the skin there absentmindedly. Taking a patient’s chart from his hands, brushing the inside of his wrist with the back of his hand. Stopping him in the hallway, gripping his waist from behind and turning him around to talk to him.
It was…ridiculous.
It was too much.
Dennis could feel in his bones the thump of Robby’s blood, coursing in his veins, the hard beating of his heart, the wooshing sound of air in his lungs, and Dennis was scared.
With that much touching, there was no way Robby hadn’t noticed Dennis didn’t have a pulse.
