Summary
The Vet’s Intern, a Laichil fanfic. 21st century au
An’t-Olean is an expending urban city set on the island it’s name after. Despite being over 1,000 years old, it has seen a revitalization of commerce around 100 years ago due to 2 reasons: gold and archaeology. This once rustic expanse around the seas of Kaka Brut has seen a great population boom as a result of these new industries. Even now, many people come to seek out a better life in An’t-Olean: whether in those industries, in the lustrous facilities that grew from them, or to start anew far from the troubles of the mainland.
Chilchuck seeks something he’s already regretting in An’t-Olean. Having been responsible for his family falling a part back in Kaka Brut, he decided to set up permanent dwelling on The Island to help his daughters in their ventures there. All is slow and miserable for the old Half-foot until his daughter Puckpatti ask him to take their Dog Immic to the Vet while she’s occupied. What started out as stressful task ends up as the most important moment in his life, as he meets Laios; the dumb college intern that has him starstruck.

“Uh...” He actually didn't think that far. In truth, he didn't know much about alcohol. He didn't really drink too often, and when he did, he would usually get whatever everyone else was having, which was typically cheap beer. He and Falin had gone out drinking with Marcille a few times, and Chilchuck had offered him different kinds of alcohol back when they were neighbours. Chilchuck knew a lot about alcohol. All Laios knew was that sometimes it was tasty, sometimes it was a little too bitter, and if he had too much of it, he would temporarily lose control of his body, which had its upsides and downsides. A part of him appreciated the feeling of disconnect from his physical form, but it made it pretty hard to do basic things, like walking, which he would need to do in order to get back home, especially since there was nobody who could lead him there. It was best not to overdo it tonight. “Nothing too strong... just a beer, or maybe a cider? I'll leave it up to you,” he said finally.
