Summary
The entire world has it on video. Alex stumbling forward, straight into Henry’s shoulder, knocking him back into the table and then crumbling to the ground, the cake falling on top of them. Summary
There’s a prominent sign over the top and in large red letters, it says KISSING BOOTH. Henry ignores how his heart sinks a little as he notes how many people are lined up, waiting for their kiss. He can’t say he’s surprised by the substantial crowd in the queue because, let’s be honest, who in their right mind would give up a chance to kiss Alexander Claremont-Diaz?
His mouth suddenly dry, Henry swallows and drags his eyes away from Alex, noticing the other signs posted around the booth. He spends a moment reading and can’t help the incredulous expression on his face. It seems that not only is Alex charging people for the chance to kiss him, but he’s going to offer feedback. The signs explain that, for a minimal fee, Alex will kiss his customers and rate their technique. He’ll give advice on how to improve their “macking mojo and smooching style.”

It has become increasingly apparent to Henry that, particularly around his father, Alex will maintain a certain level of touching. And it’s not frustrating, per se, but there are moments Henry catches himself playing out scenes in his mind of stealing Alex away to a bedroom or a hallway just to be up in his space, breathe him in and beg for a touch that doesn’t make Henry feel like he’s in a frat house so much.
So, naturally, when Henry finds himself in the lake house for a week and a half in the peak of a Texan summer, this becomes a particularly difficult affliction.

This is the story of how Alex coped with the years without the love of his life, and how they found each other again.

It’s from an unknown number, so he answers it with an accent on his tongue and laughter in his throat, ready to troll the scammer for all they’re worth. But the voice on the other side of the line is serious, solemn, when she asks, “Is this, I apologize, all I’ve been given are initials, AGCD?”
He frowns, turning away from the coffee shop he’d been about to enter. “Who’s asking?”
There’s a moment of hesitation on the other end. “There’s been an incident. On the individual's phone, there’s a sticker. It says, if found, return to AGCD, alongside this phone number. Does it sound familiar?”
Alex freezes in the middle of the sidewalk. “What kind of incident?”

The first voicemail notification sits in Henry’s inbox when he lands in London. He stares at it for a long while before quietly dismissing it and shoving his phone unceremoniously into his pocket. His phone feels like lead in his pocket the entire ride back to the palace, fingers itching to pull it out and just listen. But he’s stronger than that, isn’t he? He left, he got on the plane, he made it home without once looking back.
He had, though, contemplated the many steps it would take to turn around. Wondered if he could make it back with enough time to climb back into Alex’s bed and pretend none of this nightmare—the confession of love—had ever happened. But for every step he envisions himself taking back, three more lead him straight to Kensington Palace, because for whatever it is that he wants, there is only what he can have, and it is not a life with one Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz.
