Some impressed looks, a heartfelt compliment about his abilities, and then just as he is starting to believe he has Astarion’s admiration: a period of cold indifference. Gale will be seeking his approval before he even realises how much he has come to rely on his new companion. It’s a tactic so formulaic it would be boring, did his life not depend on it.
Astarion needs allies and Gale is a perfect combination of powerful and easy to manipulate.
He has no idea just how much Gale really has to offer him, nor how much he has to offer in return.

The question startled Gale, who looked up from where he sat cross-legged in front of his tent, organizing his scrolls in preparation for their upcoming “visit” to the goblin camp. He’d given Astarion a wide berth since the revelation of his vampiric condition a few days earlier, so he was surprised to see the pale elf looming over him now, a peculiar expression on his face.
“You know,” Gale offered with a smile, “in my extensive journeys across manifold realms, I do believe that is not a question that I’ve ever been asked before. I honestly can’t decide whether or not I should be offended.”

Of the many side effects Gale has faced as a result of his whole “being physical host to an imminently destructive magical orb” problem, he somehow never anticipated his blood now apparently smelling irresistible to vampires (or at least, one particular vampire) to be one of them.

Gale was close enough to see Astarion’s nostrils flare as he took in a great, deep breath, chest heaving with the effort. His scarlet eyes gleamed in the moonlight, open so wide and staring with such rapt attention straight into his own. Through him. It made Gale feel small. And important, maybe.
Sometimes Gale has impossibly big feelings and the only way he knows to cope is with endless rumination and denial that basically amounts to sticking his fingers in his ears and shouting. Such a coping mechanism may prove inadequate for dealing with the walking, talking, plucked-from-his-guilty-conscience fantasy that is Astarion. And it doesn’t help that Astarion has a smile that makes his heart sing, along with being, probably, the first real friend he’s ever had. (Tressyms excluded, of course.)

Summary
Diluc is an alpha who bears the Firemane, crimson red hair that waves like flames, a mark of those favoured by the gods. A gifted fighter, he has spent his whole life striving to become a respected knight, rising through the ranks of the Vermilion Order with only one goal: to reveal himself to his father, the Phoenix King Crepus, and to win his approval.
On a dark night, both the king and his sons, the Lionheart princes, are slain in their beds by an agent of the enemy kingdom of Khaenri'ah. Their assassin is rumoured to be the Frost Prince Kaeya himself.
When the Order tries to bury the assassination to avoid outright war, Diluc quits in a rage and leaves to track down the Prince, determined to find proof of his crimes. As the battle-worn Diluc is on his last legs after all his leads have led him to nothing but dead ends, he is captured behind enemy lines and is given to Prince Kaeya as a war prize instead.
The sadistic prince takes a dark interest in the wilful alpha after he realises that he must be the sole remaining son of the slain King Crepus. He promises Diluc with a cold smile that he will ensure that Diluc will rule the Vermilion Kingdom in his rightful place: by Kaeya's side, as his omega queen.
