Summary
Ryland Grace and Simon really hate each other's guts.
What went wrong? Ryland has no idea. He tried everything to get along with the man, but nothing worked. The problem is that loneliness is terrifyingly suffocating, and after a mutual accident, they slip into a twisted, purely physical relationship.
That is, until Ryland finally has enough and tries to put an end to it and rejects Simon. But this goes down hills ended up with Simon trying to take advantage of Ryland.
Broken and exhausted, Ryland resigns. He will have to let go of his only chance at human companionship; this was too much, Simon crossed the line. But when he wakes up the next morning, something is wrong. The air is different, the house, the atmosphere—everything feels off. And as if it were a sick joke, Simon appears before him as though nothing happened: gentle, cheerful, warm.

"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Grace & Rocky decide to go check out an SOS call. It could have gone better. (Trust me, eventual codependent friendship all around.)

During their journey back to Erid, Grace and Rocky find themselves in a starless void. At first they assume there must be a scientific explanation, but when they find a man welded into a submarine they realize things are far worse than they imagined.

Grace wakes to the sound of Mary and Rocky talking over each other. Blinking away the haze of sleep, Grace groans as he tries to focus on understanding what the heck is going on. Given Rocky’s voice is both closer and louder, his brain parses what he’s saying first.
“Grace, what’s that mean, question? What’s going on, question?”
Ok, not the most helpful. Sitting up, sleep properly leaves Grace’s mind as he listens to the message on the overhead.
“Forward star detection, lost. Aft star detection, lost. Starboard star detection, lost. Port star detection, lost. Ventral star detection, lost. Dorsal star detection, lost. Autopilot offline.” Mary says, repeating the message.
The exterior cameras on the Hail Mary use the positions of the stars around it to calculate it’s own position. That’s how the autopilot knows when to make course corrections.

The rough hand holding his neck up from behind let go with a shove, the figure it belonged to retreating back into the shadows.
"You're certainly interesting, Mr. 'Butcher'. I assume that's a codename, for what I don't know. But I'm sure you'd be willing to tell me.." The person who stepped out of the shadows in front of him, was certainly not who he was expecting.

Summary
Grace really had nothing to complain about. Sure, he was still living with his twin brother and his wife (thank you Colt and Jody!), and maybe he had to turn down the annoying advances of one Tom Ryder, but he had a lot going for him. He taught a class of wildly intelligent kids, he had his science, and he had his loving family. What more could Grace really want? Well, a lot. He wanted to make a difference in the world! But when Colt is seemingly kidnapped by a beast, Grace doesn't hesitate to give up his freedom in exchange for his brother. Now, he's stuck in this castle with said monster and his rock-spider-thing servants.
The monster, Simon, he comes to learn, is freaky, and kind of an asshole, but the more time he spends with him, the more Grace comes to see the man behind the teeth and claws. And he thinks he might really like him. And if Grace thinks the teeth and claws are kind of hot, well that doesn't hurt either.
Will Grace be able overcome Simon's fishy exterior and love him truly? Will Simon see past his own hurt and pride to love Grace? Or will outside forces come between them before they have that chance?
