Blink bristled, his feathers fluffing up a little bit. He stilled, staring down at the pathetic nest that he was trying to build up around him. It worked a little better when there were more blankets, but Blink had done it with less. He just needed something vaguely nest-shaped to satiate that growling part in his brain that he always tried to ignore.

As much as she cared for these two people that she just met (which wasn’t a lot, but they needed her more than she needed them), she wasn’t going to sacrifice herself and risk putting herself in more pain because they wanted to keep going. She was going to make a stop and they were either going to have to go on without her expert guidance, or just have to suck it up.
“Hold up, beansprouts,” Runt bounded forward, forcing her body to move painfully with each step, the braces on her legs clicking as her ratted shoes thudded on the cracked pavement. “If we’re gonna be doing a lot of walkin’ still, I gotta make a stop first.
