A myriad of emotion passed over Bensons features, recognition, annoyance, confusion, acceptance, a few others that Randy wouldn't dare to guess at.
“Randy? The fuck are you doing here?” Randy smiled, dipping his head and looking up at Benson through his eyelashes. Something in the pit of his stomach warming at Benson’s voice and Randy’s name being the first thing he said as a free man.Twenty years after the shooting at the diner, Benson is getting out of prison. Randy goes to pick him up.

Benson is pressing a ball of cloth onto his bleeding shoulder, and the words ’I called them’ are on his tongue, but he doesn’t say them. Instead he leans close to Benson’s ear and whispers ”Just go. Go now, before it’s too late.”
Randy assumed this was the last he would ever see of Benson. But a year later, Benson seeks him out and asks to meet him. Out of curiosity, or perhaps something else, Randy takes up the offer.

Randy felt terrified.
They were on their way to Ms. Beard's house... they were on their way to Ms. Beard's house and Benson now looked more like a cornered animal, wild and out of control, ready to attack at any second, and that made Randy feel absolutely terrified for her.
(Canon divergence were they don’t reach Ms. Beard and instead Benson takes Randy on a very stressful and traumatic road trip)
