Every now and then, while he walked down the streets on rainy days: Travis would see a man in a window. The man would always sit in the window, his legs dangling outside, not caring that he was high up, not caring if he could fall or not.
He always wore a face covering, held a cigarette between his fingers, and looked down at Travis: long blue hair dangling down with him.They noticed each other, yet they never spoke a single word to one another.
Travis couldn't figure out if he was intrigued by this man or hated him for an unknown reason. However, he didn't care much.This went on for a long time until one day, the man in the window disappeared, and Travis met him elsewhere.

Levi knew it was possible to learn what all these letters meant when they were put together. Other people could read, so he could too, eventually, maybe. He'd made it through being a streetrat, losing his family, and having to relocate to a whole other city after getting into one too many fights with the idiots who would rather point a gun at you than get a real job. Starved within an inch of his life, losing everything nearly overnight, and yet the thing that was kicking his ass was ink. On a page. The book wasn't even that complicated looking. It had a plain cover and a short title. He thought maybe if he looked at the letters long enough he'd get something to click.
- Levi's attempts to try to teach himself to read are interrupted by Erwin, a stranger, who for some reason, seems interested in explaining the complexities of grammar to him.
