Summary
After the Manhattan Void incident, the civilians of New York City have been absolutely rocked by the impact. The destruction and chaos that ensued left many dead and injured in the places The New Avengers couldn’t get to. People want justice for the slain, and one particular civilian, after a chance encounter with the new ‘John Doe’ of the team, Robert Reynolds, decides to take revenge into her own hands after her sister is hospitalized from The Void’s attack. Unfortunately for Robert, he has no idea that the blackout was seen in many, many phone recordings. His voice on the news has been playing on loop, and some people don’t forget voices easily; he is forced to learn this the hard way after his run-in with this random woman leads to him falling mysteriously ill.
Is she just a civilian, or is there more to Odessa Gianii than meets the eye?

NB: I have crossposted this story to Royalroad under the title System Override.
A forced experimental drug treatment at an early age has saddled David with an immense burden.
His mother’s insistence on his current lifepath as a corpo has done much the same.
David is a speeding ball of fire hurtling towards an unknown destination, and his mother’s death has left him adrift and unsure of his direction.
So he does what any teenager with no more fucks left to give does—he chips in some mil-spec chrome and looks for a quick way to earn edds, all the while learning to utilize the nanotechnology that had been forced on him as a child—finding out the immense potential within him as a result.
Corpo or Edgerunner? Why not both? And why not the best of both while we’re fucking at it?

By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.
For Robert, that was V. For V, that was David. For David, that was dealing with the revelation that he now had a father in his life. Now had the man who was supposed to help raise him. Help him with his problems, and maybe extend the courtesy to his friends. So far, V had come through on most of that...albeit nearly eighteen years late. The man had given him and his mother improved places to live. Supplied him and his friends with plenty of gear and work to stay sharp.
But David knew V has his own problems to deal with. Corporate beauracy. Shades of his past casting shadows on the present that threatened to take away everything he had worked to build. V hadn't shied away from his problems, and David wasn't about to let the favor go unreturned.

The man seems determined to test her patience. “Oh, no, uh, I don’t think you should do—that.” He twitches forward a step, as if he’s worried that she’s going to fall. As if he could catch her somehow, if she did.
