Summary

(...) Unlike the prisons Akira had seen in other castles, this jail smelled like hay - heaps of it were placed in individual cells to act in lieu of beds, and the resulting atmosphere was rather stable-like.
The Kitsune definitely seemed to like it, given that he was buried in the fragrant straws like in an oversized nest. He just slept there, with his back to the cell entrance, curled into a ball - and he was snoring quietly. Cute.
“...He’s in human form now,” Yosuke whispered, staring. “Maybe he rested up a bit and can now maintain it better?”
“Why would you think the human form is superior to a Kitsune?” Akechi hissed.
“Maybe it’s the other way around for them,” Akira whispered from above Akechi’s head. “He was in danger, he had to be on top of his physical capabilities, so he turned to an animal. Now that he’s locked up, alone and in pain, he feels… weak. Like a human.”

Damen looked up. Laurent’s gaze was level, and very blue.
“Broadly,” Laurent said, “is it the pain? Or the being told what to do?”
And suddenly Damen was finding it very hard to breathe. Laurent simply waited him out, his gaze fixed on Damen’s face. Damen couldn’t help remembering Nik’s description from last weekend. High alert.
“Both,” he said finally. Laurent gave a short nod, like he was filing that away. “And…”
“And what?”
Damen licked his lips. “And you, I think.”
This time the wash of pink over Laurent’s cheeks was unmistakable. Damen reveled in it, even as he fought the urge to squirm at his own confession.
“Noted,” Laurent said, very evenly.
