“Ya let yourself tremble in fear, looking pale and sick like a corpse. Ya don’t even care that yer lips are dried and almost white, or yer face and body are drenched in sweat.” His eyes were squinting as he spoke, his voice almost like a whisper. His crimson eyes were gleaming at Yoshiki, causing the boy to look away.
“Whyy? Why do ya punish yourself like that..? What kind of sin have ya done?” Those questions struck him like lightning, burning his mind to a crisp.
“Is it because of me? Does being with me feel like a sin to ya??” His voice turned melancholy. But his eyes remained sharp, locked on him.

There was something especially fucked up about it when your best friend had been replaced by something non-human, wearing his face and eating his memories. Yoshiki couldn’t let go of Hikaru, even then. Even when he was laying in bed and too tired to leave, he couldn’t just be alone—he couldn’t forget—he didn’t want to—and Hikaru wouldn’t even begin to understand how terrifying it was, how out of proportion it had become.

There, sitting on one of the corners, was his Hikaru, his undressed back facing Yoshiki. Then— slowly, as if every movement caused him unimaginable pain, he twisted his body until he was able to look at him with a crooked smile. Yoshiki’s breath hitched in his throat, at long last allowing a broken whimper to leave the opening of his mouth.
"Yoshiki”, Hikaru’s rough voice blossomed, uncertain. His left iris trembled to allow the escape of more iridescent tendrils, further desfiguring himself and making his half-naked figure appear much, much smaller. “You’re here.”
One month had passed and they hadn’t talked about it. Or, well, perhaps it was better to say that Hikaru kept trying to mention their fateful Valentine’s Day, and Yoshiki kept evading the subject. Before they could even begin to sew their cracks, Hikaru is taken away.
Yoshiki struggles with how to define what they are. Hikaru thinks they don’t need to. Together, they mend one another with patience, care and lacquer powdered with gold.[Can be read as a stand-alone]
