A year goes by before O'hara decides it's time to bring Vanessa back to work, but things won't snap back to the way they were. A year can do a lot to a person. She's no longer the warm and fuzzy Arachne she once was. And it's going to take a lot to coax it back out of her.

After the Vulture's sudden disappearance from Earth-1350, pandemonium unfurls in the city of Novum Eboracum as he returns unshackled and untamed. The Spider-Team embarks on a mission to restrain him for the second time, and in due course, encounters the prideful and Machiavellian-minded spider-heroine of the dimension. Since Miguel has bound himself to the duty of mentoring the newcomers of the Spider-Society, Aranea ends up becoming his protégé, much to both their displeasure. She condemns him for his ill-natured demeanor, and in turn he is piqued by her vanity and egotism - yet as they journey across cities and realities in search of a centuries-old contraption, they eventually discover solace in the sanctuary of each other's company.

I no longer claim to know why Victor said that I died that night. I believed once that I knew him, likely better than anyone in the world, but after that night we became strangers to each other in a way that we could not repair. Did he believe he was shielding his father and brother from a greater horror? Was it truly easier to face the notion of me dead, than me lost to him? Better a martyr, perhaps, than a saint defiled.

His hand grabs your jaw, forcing you to look at him. His pupils are blown out with bloodlust where he fixates on your lips, bitten raw and stained crimson. You’re not prepared for the sheer vitriol in his burning eyes, the cold cruelty spliced between the gravel of his voice.
“So pretty for me,” he mutters viciously. “Like a little doll.”
Maybe he’s right, with your eyes glassy with tears and lips red as wine, cheeks flushed with a futile anger that is smothered before it can fully ignite. He drags his thumb roughly across your mouth, down to your jaw. The blood smears. He brings his finger to his mouth and your eyes hone in on the way his tongue flicks out eagerly to taste it, like he’s partaking in some consecrated communion, like it’ll bring him some sort of twisted salvation, some long-awaited redemption. His teeth bare in the semblance of a smile; it pleases him.

What if the encounter with Elizabeth and The Creature went very differently? What if a bargain was struck?
An indulgent "What if" where Elizabeth is not entirely happy with the life that was laid out for her and after she agrees to be the creature's bride, she and her new "husband" begin to see things in each other that pull them close together.
Chapter 1-12 updated with a new scene added to chapter 4. Ch 8 has been polished and the tone changed a bit. Chapter 12 has been nearly completely rewritten Expanded on Elizabeth's inner turmoil. Other chapters to follow, some chapters may be re-written entirely. It won't be too different but I feel like the story needs some ironing out and there are some elements that need to be expanded on. Feedback is welcome!
