Summary
Will just wants to get through his last year of high school without incident, to feel normal for once in his life, and try to survive the building tension between him and Mike that grows with every word left unsaid. “Well, not all of us are brave like you, Will! Not all of us can gather everyone, expose ourselves in front of our family and friends, and strut around like nothing ever happened!” Mike exploded.
“Expose?” Will echoed, more to himself than to Mike, who stood in his dorm clutching the damn letters. The word lodged itself in his mind. Expose. As if his coming out were a scandal. As if he were something shameful—meant to be hidden, locked away, spoken of in whispers.
“Look, I—” Mike ran a hand through his hair, pacing.
“Get out.” Will was already moving toward the door, hand on the knob. He needed Mike gone before he said something irreversible—before the words spilled out sharp and unforgiving.
After defeating Vecna, the party agreed to host a get-together every other month, rotating between them. It worked—until the first letter arrived at Will’s dorm, love, Mike scribbled along the edge.
So Will told himself he was over Mike. Over reading into every word, every pause, every letter.. With every gathering and every exchanged letter, the tension tightened, coiling toward something inevitable

And maybe because he’s looking so closely, or maybe just because it’s Will and Mike knows all his little tells like the back of his own hand—better, probably—he knows that Will’s about to collapse probably ten seconds before it happens, and he’s moving, skirting around the mangled corpse of the demogorgon and sliding the last few feet through the mix of blood and Upside Down slime to drop to his knees and catch Will just before his head would’ve hit the concrete.

Picking up right where vol 1 left off, the right side up gang regroups and Mike has lots of feelings about everything that's happened. This is 100% a byler fic, but it's just as much about Mike having (or at least starting) his version of Will's self-acceptance/gaining his powers arc, because he needs and deserves it.

Recently, to the left of Jayce’s eye line in red permanent marker, someone has written “MEN’S ROOM - MIDDLE STALL. FRIDAYS 10 - 2” in all caps, with a fat heart to punctuate the invitation. Underneath, in the same marker, they’ve drawn a circle.
It takes him a few beats to understand what the red marker is advertising. And when it clicks, even though Jayce certainly isn’t the kind of guy to visit a glory hole, he checks his wristwatch anyway.

“The council brought forth- shit.” Jayce scrubs a hand over his face, remembering the process. “Thirty six potential consorts. I had the council members I trust privately eliminate thirty of those.”
“Was the Demacian princess one of the six?”
“I don't know,” Jayce laughs lightly. “You were the second I reviewed and I saw your plans for aqueducts in the letter you'd sent and didn't bother to review any of the others.”
