The idea seems reasonable enough to him as he manages to stand up (barely) while holding on to his dragon. Well, he might also still be a bit under the influence of alcohol, considering the amount he drank, but it should be fine, right?
After the graduation ball, Scott visits Pyro, before going on his trip.

With black-and-red wings he's kept hidden for as long as he can remember, Nom has gotten very good at pretending they're not there. Unfortunately, keeping wings hidden under armor isn't exactly good for him—and when Scott discovers just how much trouble Nom has been having, he decides enough is enough.
Nom is going to take care of his wings.
He's going to stop hiding them.
And, most importantly, he's going to let the Blue Kingdom know the truth.
Of course, Nom would much rather fight an army than stand in front of his friends and show them his wings.
