"Chuuya would be a liar if he said the idea wasn’t incredibly appealing. He’d “lost” their first-ever bet, but only because Dazai cheated. He hadn’t defeated the younger teen since, nor did he have the chance to do so. The satisfaction of beating Dazai alone would have been enough to get him into the job but if he were to sweep in and complete the job faster, wouldn’t that mean he’d be more likely to be considered for promotion? He’d be stupid not to take it, even if he never had a choice at all."

After a raid goes off the rails, Dazai jumps from a window to save Chuuya, landing them both in the hospital. This is fine, according to Dazai. What was not fine, however, was getting dragged to the hospital and separated while Chuuya's phobia mixed with his usual post corruption state existed.
Needless to say, Dazai is not happy about any of it.

“No, absolutely not,” Chuuya interjected. “I’m only telling you this as a friendly warning, I didn’t invite you to join!”
“As your subordinate, I’ll have to refuse your refusal,”When a string of disappearances leave the Port Mafia down a squad and Akutagawa down a sister, Chuuya is given the job to retrieve them. Akutagawa, being the good sibling he is, invites himself along.
The Armed Detective Agency has their own string of disappearances to investigate when the police assume an ability user is involved.
The adventure leaves Akutagawa with more emotional revelations then he'd like to process.
