As he finishes explaining his predicament to a much younger headmaster, a knock rings against the door — in walks Tom Riddle, ready to be interviewed for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position.
Cursed paintings, partially successful scheming, tense workplace relationships. Additionally: romance, of sorts?

“Why is a raven like a writing desk?” asked a voice.
A jolt shot down her spine. It was not a familiar voice at all, but like the bells, it was so close to her that she could hardly believe the speaker wasn’t at her shoulder.
The silver hoop continued to slowly turn, and Hiyori strained her eyes to make out the features of the person lounging in it.
The bell-tipped jester’s hat cast a shadow over his forehead, and the lower half of his face was obscured by a scarf drawn up and knotted loosely around his neck. The ends of it trailed down to flutter near his crossed ankles.
The hoop completed another quarter-rotation. The figure stood up suddenly, his body elongating with catlike grace. His chin tilted down, regarding the enthralled crowd below him.

Eren is taken back to Paradis and imprisoned—possibly for life. Having formed a new, aggressive political movement of the state, Jaegerists defend Eren’s right to freedom now that their martyr is no longer facing imminent death at 23. A court date is set.
Eren does not believe in his own freedom anymore. But when he finds out that Levi’s sole vote against Eren's publicly debated execution holds the most power, he begins to wonder why Levi would speak for him a second time, and whether he regrets the first.

He remembered them blushed and calloused with work, dirt under the nails from every odd job she kept to keep them afloat, but most of all he remembered how they felt pressed against his arm, his hand, his cheek.

This is everything I wanted The Lost Tower to be. The end feels only a little unfinished, but it's satisfactory enough. I love that there's more Kakashi and Minato, which felt so glaringly missing in the movie. They'd missed such a great opportunity! They should have had this writer on the writing team for the movie, because this is so much better.
