Will just wanted to bring his brother home. He didn’t plan on sharing motel beds, surviving Mike Wheeler’s jealousy spiral, or confronting feelings he’s spent years burying.
Mike thinks Will likes girls.
Will thinks Mike will never love him back.

Water dripped from Will's hair, ran down his jaw, caught on his lips.
Mike stared at it.
Stared like he'd forgotten where he was.
Then, slowly he lifted a towel and pressed it gently to Will's mouth, wiping the water away. His hand didn't even shake. He was steady.
Will's breath stuttered. Tingles tremored all the way up his spine.
He didn't move. He couldn't. He was too aware of Mike's hand, of the way his eyes kept dropping back to his lips.
That look again.
The one Will had seen a dozen times now and never understood.

All three look to the entrance of the lounge, the direction of the thud.
“Shit,” says someone out of sight, just beyond the entrance, almost too soft to catch.
Will’s blood runs cold, because he knows that voice, knows the specific lilt of it.
“Mike?"

Summary
Will decided he’d rather slip away into himself and observe everyone else rather than verbally participate. Which is what he’d been doing, successfully, he might add, for several weeks now. He’d still give just enough in group settings so no one would notice his lack of contribution to the conversation. And when he thought about it, he preferred it this way. He didn’t need eyes on him all the time, and he didn't need to be the center of attention. He’d rather watch and listen to his friends than overpower them with his thoughts or feelings.
Spying made it sound like it was wrong. But, if he changed it to observing… that was something everyone did.
Will began observing everyone.

Summary
Fire sparks beneath the long sleeve he’s wearing as their arms touch. Will lifts the beers with ease into his arms, carrying them like they weighed nothing, like they hadn’t almost just ripped Mike’s weak gangly arms clean off.
He didn’t need to be able to see through Will’s blue flannel to know his bicep was flexed. Mike had spent far too much time looking at Will’s physique and even longer thinking about it. Will filled out his shirts, the fabric tighter around his chest and arms than his waist. He was taller too. Not as tall as Mike, but tall enough to make a difference.
Mike felt as though his body had forgotten to grow muscle and instead just grew more bone. He was tall and spindly, knees always knocking into walls and table legs, arms longer than he remembered them being, causing him to accidentally swing his hand into shelves and cabinets.
He was used to comparing his body to his friends - Lucas’ mostly. But that’s not how it was with Will. Mike wasn’t comparing, he was admiring. Sure, he wouldn’t mind looking like Will did, but he was more entranced by him than anything.

“I guess?” Mike can imagine Will looking off to the side, scratching his cheek self-consciously.
He places his hands on Will’s shoulders, turning the other to look at him. He definitely looks stupid – his eyes closed while simultaneously trying to stare at Will intently.
“So you’ve been following me around this whole year?”
“Um. Yes?”
He groans, pressing the heels of his palms to his eyes. “Holy shit.”
“Holy shit.” Will echoes.

It was the Mike who had spent days on the frontline searching for Will, who had thrown himself into fire to shelter a terrified stranger, who lived in waiting room chairs and the threadbare blankets of Jonathan’s house. Who had brought Will back from the brink when no one else could, and who had gifted a joy to him that Jonathan had never seen before. A Mike who cared, above all else. Golden-tinged light.

Will imagines throwing his arms around Mike’s shoulders as he cries yes, yes I’ll marry you! He imagines their wedding, how soft and romantic and perfect it would be. Afterwards, Mike would undress him slowly, press him into the mattress, and kiss away the tears that spring out of his eyes as he slides inside Will, deep and pulsing and everything Will needs. He thinks about calling Mike his husband, about their rings clanging together as Mike presses their hands together on the mattress while he fucks into Will. Will would moan and cry out for his husband until his throat became hoarse. He thinks about doing that every single night of their honeymoon. Every single night for the rest of their lives.
Mike starts telling everyone that he and Will are on their honeymoon, even though they're not actually married. Will promptly loses his mind over it.

Her whole world was falling apart in front of her eyes and Mike held her all the way through it.
