King Thorin felt like Mahal Himself had swung his mighty hammer and cracked it right between his dazed blue eyes. The vibrations from The Strike shook his very being from his skull to his heart and then out through every nerve in his body. His eyes rolled back, his lungs expelled every breath of air, and the King Under the Mountain swooned so violently that his chair tipped backward with a loud crash, leaving everyone in the room silently gaping at the head of the table where only a pair of royal boots could be seen. “Well, that doesn’t mean-“ The man frowns, eye darting around as if the girlfriend would appear out of thin air. “Unless…”

“Right so, courting went badly. He tried to–” began Dwalin.
“Yes exactly! But I didn’t fall for it!” said Bilbo.
“Then you do not like him?”
“Of course I do!”Bilbo is thoroughly disoriented when Thorin starts treating him as a friend, after weeks of quite explicit hostility. Even more when he cannot deny that Thorin is flirting with him. Almost, he allows himself to believe the dwarf could be genuine in his care. That's before he recognizes the pattern for what it is; a wicked trick to rip the only friends Bilbo ever truly had from him. He refuses to be deceived like that again.
Thorin is mostly confused and hurt, when his attempts at courting seem to result in pure fury and hatred.

There are stories, as old as time, passed down from generation to generation. When the ancient powers of our world align, when the will of our Gods unite, sometimes a traveler slips through time and of course it is Bilbo Baggins on whose door adventure knocks but if there is one thing he had learned throughout his life, it was this: If trouble knocks at your door, don't open it. However, he had a tendency not to follow his own advice.
The moonlight touched his face, bringing forth the silver streaks of his hair and the blue of his eyes. It was almost too deep to be real, deeper than the lake beyond the clearing and somehow, all of a sudden, blue became the warmest colour in existence. Most wore their freckles in sunlight, but his showed up when the moon shines, like constellations in the sky, hidden until nightfall.
[I really just wanted to write Thorin getting whipped like Jamie from Outlander, and naturally, I ended up writing a whole remake of their quest, involving a timeline shift and Silmaril lore. The explanation for the time travel will be delivered in chapter 5, by a cheeky wizard, so stick with me because a wizard is never late, nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to.]
