“You can’t honestly buy into that,” said Jon, straightening out his back to face her. “They’re just woods, it’ll be fine. I’ll take the main road back – they’re patrolled enough at night that I shouldn’t run into any – ” he punctuated his sentence with a small flutter of his hands. “I’ll be fine, honest.”
“This isn’t like your stories, Jon,” she said, her arms crossing over her chest. “You could get hurt, or worse.”

Summary
When Sasha had told him she was certain Jon and Martin were going to do something stupid, Tim’s initial response had been to roll his eyes and mutter, “What’s new?” Because if nothing else, the past few weeks had proven they were the dumbest pair of intellectuals he’d ever met. It wasn’t a surprise that Jon - serious, skeptical, determined Jon - was incorrigibly impulsive and prone to somehow always choosing the wrong move to make; Tim had seen plenty of that back in their days in Research, usually when whatever statement they were working on involved a Leitner.
It was far more surprising that Martin was a dirty enabler.
OR, a tale in which Tim interrupts a poorly planned attempt at a stake-out and causes chaos, as is his due right.

“What?” the other man asks, wiping the smear of flour of his cheek. He examines his hand, frowns, looks back up. “Did I miss a patch?”
“No,” Jon says, despite there being flour all over Martin’s apron, a bit on the tip of his nose, and a healthy smattering in his hair. Something about Martin in the kitchen covered in flour makes his heart squeeze. Just like this, he thinks, the same way a desperate, brokenly in love man would. Let us stay just like this. His eyes catch back on his hair, looking at the flecks in the roots, the spark of orange that has started to nestle among the black and shock of white (a blessing from the Lonely, because unfortunately, most things that love Martin are not the most kind to him). He wants to run his hands through his hair. He wants to ask about the color. Is it natural? Is it new? Is it Martin’s original color? He wants to know, wants the knowledge inside his head and next to his heart, filling up his chest, and for that reason he cannot ask in good conscience. He cannot ask and still know for certain that the answers are given voluntarily.

Every time something happens that threatens to drive him up the wall, he pulls out his little mental list, and goes through it item by item, and suddenly the bad things don’t seem very bad at all.
There’s the scenery, for one. There’s the old-fashioned design of the cottage, sometimes annoying but mostly just charming.
And then, of course, there’s Martin.
Jon and Martin get settled in Scotland, and settle into their relationship in the process.
