When waking up as a clone on Kamino, all he could do was blend in and stay quiet about all he knew. It was difficult and often painful, but he knew that if he told those he loved, they would be put in danger, too. Knowledge was an easy way to attract attention, and the last thing he wanted was attention from the wrong people.
He just needed to stay quiet. Easy.

Summary
Fives turns back to eye him suspiciously, nearly stumbling over his own feet. Kix opens his mouth, closes it again. There’s a little voice inside of him, faint and distant like a particularly staticky transmission, and it’s trying to tell him something. It’s similar to the same feeling that tugs at him when he’s treating a nasty wound, the one that whisper-shouts at him to put pressure here or mix the antidote like that— a muffled but bone-deep instinct that comes from somewhere other than just his training.
It’s as close to screaming as he’s ever heard now, telling him quite clearly that if he lets Fives out of his sight tonight, he will never see him again.
Kix refuses to let Fives out of his sight after their meeting at 79s. Meanwhile, Fox grows increasingly desperate in his search, Cody wants nothing more than to help all his brothers, and Fives can’t figure out why he feels so odd now that his chip is gone.

Summary
This is a world in which Arla Fett never joins Death Watch, Mij Gilamar flees Kamino with four little foundlings in tow, Jango Fett keeps his head, ARC Trooper Fives survives the chaos of Coruscant, and the Clone Wars ends not with the Fall of Anakin Skywalker, but with seven blaster bolts straight through Chancellor Palpatine and out the other side.
This is a world that isn't always gentler, but is better all the same.
