Calliope’s omega parent was a strange creature—a silent, dead-eyed creature that didn’t appear to see her even when he was looking right at Calliope’s face. He only ever looked at her when his eyes were so unfocused he clearly was not aware of anything around, anyway. Otherwise, he kept his face down.
Calliope hated him more than she could ever imagine hating anyone else.

The whole series is so compelling! I keep reading and getting immersed, each new part a new heartbreaking favorite.
1-4 read in succession—immaculate, amazing4 is my personal fave, the build up getting there from the first three parts.…okay but then 5 and 6!!! were great too. And 7! And 8! It’s actually all so good.Technically all standalone, but flows better read in order of publication date because more characters are introduced and alluded to in previous installments. It builds better reading in succession. Read every part!!
Almost like Legend of Zelda, taking the same characters and exploring them in different yet similar/adjacent racist, sexist nobility based universes. Horrifyingly good.
Dark themes of various abuses; has less smut and more social world building. A series on the strength, cleverness, and resilience it takes to survive despite being meek and afraid.

Summary
When the King of Nasria dies, the fight for succession of the crown between his sons begins. Only one Prince can claim it and he must kill his brothers in order to do so.
But there are Princes in certain generations that look upon their half brothers as something more than competition, something more than threats to their chances of being King of Nasria. And they will do what they have to so that both of them can survive the succession. So that they can have their brothers for their own.
