Summary
He’s covered in roach guts. Glowing roach guts, wonderful. They smell terrible, and Ryland can’t even bathe, ugh. But the poor thing was slowly freezing to death. He couldn’t just…
Grace sighs and stands, wincing at the squish of the mess around him. He shakes the mess off his hands. Lesson learned. They dealt with radroaches in the Vault differently. Maybe he should take a page out of their book and just shoot them on sight.
That reminds him. He needs to go through his pack.
The sofa’s too rotted out to hold Grace’s weight, so he scrapes off the worst of the roach gore (ew ew ew ew), unstraps his back and lets it flop to the filthy ground. Cheese and crackers, that thing was heavy! At least they weren’t sending him out without provisions.

Summary
The man twists his face into disgust. His red eye glitters unnaturally, and the teeth on his cheek suddenly seem a whole lot sharper. Ryland gulps. “I’m not eating that,” the man says firmly, “I’m not eating it.”
“I promise, it’s food,” Grace says, holding up the shiny little tube. “It’s not very good, but it has to be better than starving.”
“You’re with the COI, aren’t you?” The man says accusingly, “You’re trying to kill me. My sentence has already passed, hasn’t it? I’ve done my penance. I’m not eating that, I won’t let you poison me. I was promised, you people promised me that you’d let me go if I…you promised you wouldn’t kill me!”
Grace blinks stupidly. “What?”

Summary
“Heard the sink running,” Grace slurs, already burying his face back into the pillow. “Must’ve been thirsty.”
“Tripped and fell in the sand. Double gravity’s a bitch. Had to wash the dirt off.”
Grace grumbles. “The sand clogs up the sink,” he gripes, but he’s clearly too sleepy to really argue. “Should’ve just bathed.”
“And woken you up?”
“I’m awake anyway. Now lemme sleep.”
Simon chuckles. “Wasn’t stopping you.”
“Mm,” Grace mumbles, clearly already sleeping again. Simon breathes a sigh of relief. He lifts his hand to look at it. The Band-Aid doesn’t quite match his skin tone, and there’s already a little dark splotch of blood on the pad visible through the other side. The throbbing has eased to a dull ache that pulses with his heartbeat. He’d put the Band-Aid on too tight on purpose to feel each thrum.
Grace doesn’t have to know about this. Simon can keep this for himself.
