It's 190 AG and Firelord Izumi is abdicating the throne for her granddaughter Juziya. Prince Wu and his entire family (including the juvenile dragon) pack up the (brand new) airship and gather together the Republic City Beifongs to attend the coronation.
Fluff! Family dynamics! Political intrigue! All of the Hou-Tings being...Hou-Tings! All of the Beifongs being...Beifongs! World leaders! Balls! Fancy dinners! The Imperial Guest House! The importance of having more than one lounge! So much description of clothing and jewelry! People losing their tempers! Unreliable diary narratives! Secrets! So.Much.Bending! Being pregnant in this heat? Discussions about valets! Royal hats that make your hair poof up and your ears stick out! Cultural differences between the Fire Nation and the (former) Earth Kingdom! The trials and tribulations of marrying an assassin! Political plots that none of the visitors want to get involved with but too bad so sad!
In other words, what you have come to expect from Wu and his family. Welcome to a week of semi-organized chaos. At least the food's good, right?

Summary
Mako is hired by an insufferable, selfish, spoiled soon-to-be king to be his bodyguard. Despite the apparent lack of danger to his person, Prince Wu seems to be fraught with peculiarities and anxieties that Mako can't understand and with every passing day the walls between them only seem to grow higher.
Prince Wu has just lost everything; his family, his home, centuries worth of heirlooms, and his nation. To make it worse he finds himself thrust into the unwanted position of Prince. His one comfort and lifeline was the hopes that hiring Mako would keep him grounded, would make him feel safe. When this plan fails, Wu can't help the resentment and loneliness that builds.
