Written for the AWAU Winter 2024 Prompt Fest. The prompt was Prompt #5 - *spits blood* “I wouldn’t have done that if I were you”
It should have been a simple contract - find out what was making the odd noises from inside the cavern near the waterfront, and let the fishermen know it was safe to use those waters again. Instead? Lambert was not prepared for this.

Lambert had never had many things. No witcher did. It was a hard and often thankless job and it didn't even pay well. So through most of his adult years, Lambert had thought he would die a poor man, and although the thought had pissed him off to no end, he had reluctantly come to accept it.
Then Lambert had met Aiden and he had become rich.
Or a Fix-it fic that gives Aiden and Lambert the happy ending they deserve.

The barn smells like shit.
Lambert glares at the frozen ground, the frost creeping over the dirt floor. The dirt is frozen, which means the shit on the dirt is frozen, which means winter is crawling closer, day by day. Which means heading north.
It also means that the boy who showed him to the barn to sleep in can't shovel the shit out of the barn because it's stuck fast. Hence the smell. A chicken chirrs from the rafters above, and fluffs itself up, nestling closer to its flock, roosted and tucked close for warmth.
Tucked close for warmth. There's a thought.

Summary
“Never met a Cat,” Lambert shoots back, having confirmed his guess as to what school the man belonged to with a glance at his medallion. He regards the other witcher with suspicion. It’s only been a couple months since he learned of the massacre in Iello, committed by none other than a Cat witcher. The story had lined up with everything Vesemir told him as a trainee about the Cat school and the witchers they produced, their penchant for excessive bloodshed and volatile temperaments. He searches for signs of those characteristics in the man before him. He comes up short, at least on the surface, but he’s not planning on sticking around for those traits to reveal themselves.
The man takes this in stride and grins at Lambert. “Well, let me be the first. Aiden,” he says, sticking out a hand.
