Wow. Just. . . wow. Incredibly poignant, the way the best of children's literature always is, and the added allusions to Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland make everything so much richer and more satisfying. This lingers, and I suspect it will be very rewarding on rereads.

Arthur/Saito is like Hotch/Morgan in Criminal Minds for me -- the pairing I want the most and see written the least. But this, THIS is Arthur/Saito done absolutely brilliantly, totally changing the way I look at the movie in the process, highlighting a thing I really didn't think enough of when I saw it.

I generally avoid slave!fics because it's so hard to manage the power differential realistically and still have a happy ending. But this fic manages it incredibly gracefully -- it's fairly painful at parts, and it's *still* an idealized vision of a master/slave relationship, but overall it works.
