Crowley sat in the dark.
The floor was hard, the room cold and the darkness unforgiving.
This was where he belonged. Among the creatures of darkness.
He deserved the ache in his bones from crouching in the same position on the rough ground for so long. He deserved the ache in his heart from the memory of her joyous laughter.
It had been supposed to be a vacation, just a little trip to clear his mind. It hadn't been her fault he picked that spot to sit down.
She would never laugh like that again, and no one was to blame but him.

Summary
The world should have ended four years ago.
That was how it was written. The Great Plan was very clear on that much. Six thousand years after the creation of the world, the Anti-Christ would arrive on Earth. And after his eleventh birthday, when he came into power, he would lead the demons into the Final War. All of humanity would perish while angels and demons clashed in one final glorious confrontation.
But no one had accounted for a few little snags. Like a couple of traitors. Or a disobedient Anti-Christ.
And then, as if the Apocalypse not happening wasn’t already bad enough, Heaven and Hell couldn’t even punish those to blame for that entire mess. That was unacceptable.
If Michael couldn't have the promised War and if she could not kill at least the demon involved, then she would at a minimum make him suffer. She could at least make him suffer until he wished that holy water could end his miserable existence.

Summary
The idea of Aziraphale, his friend-but-not-friend-because-they-are-hereditary-enemies, knowing that Crowley, a demon from the pits of Hell, had stupid, shaky legs? Disgusting to him. He couldn't let Aziraphale find out- Satan knows, he may just pity him. Eugh. Or, even worse, be kind to him. Like Crowley is a human he's particular fond of, one of those that gets Aziraphale all teary-eyed and warm-hearted. Disgusting.
So, naturally, Crowley just never told him.

Summary
“Sssoft, angel,” Crowley slurred into Aziraphale’s neck, “Warm.” Crowley sighed happily. Aziraphale lay motionless, heart pounding in his ears. A ice cold hand slipped over his heart, and Aziraphale absentmindedly covered it with his own. Crowley nuzzled his neck.
Crowley was clearly delirious from the cold, Aziraphale reminded himself as the demon let out another contented sigh. This wasn’t real. Crowley snuggled closer. Not real…
Aziraphale thinks nothing of the freezing weather outside until he finds Crowley shivering and incoherent. The demon clings to him for warmth, and Aziraphale figures that it couldn't hurt to let the demon cuddle him for warmth until he gets better... right? Never mind that this is a dream come true, Crowley needs him!
Miscommunication, crying, and love confessions ensue.

Summary
Love is poison to any demon who feels it. Crowley's used Hell as the antidote these last six thousand years. He can't do that anymore, for reasons having to do with a certain apocalypse-that-wasn't. Things spiral helplessly from there.
(Crowley feels the weight of a new impending deadline, time marching toward his own personal end. Aziraphale frets whenever Crowley lets him and feels utterly powerless in the face of this--whatever it is. He doesn't know. Crowley won't tell him.)
