Summary
Jax finally did it. He apologized to everyone! But that's obviously not enough to change anything. Especially when the apology sounded so... disingenuously.
The fan-favorite asshole must be punished for his crimes. The circus members decided that the silent treatment is better than jail. Now Jax can't speak to others, or even hear them, at least until they forgive him. With time and effort, he can work his way through to earn their forgiveness and break the punishment's spell.
Well, in theory it sounds great, but it is Jax we are talking about. What do you mean he can't talk with others? What do you mean there is no audience for his snarky comments? What do you mean he has to befriend people to be able to speak with them again???
He actually wished they would've thrown him into a wacky jail instead.

It would be better if you read it first, but it's not completely necessary to understand the plot. Kinger and Jax relationship is established in the previous part though and you might want to take a look at that before you start reading this.

“Hey Jax..” Pomni starts to call out quietly but upon seeing the back of his shoulders tense further she pauses.
Are you okay? She wants to ask.
But her gut tells her that that might not be the best approach with Jax yet. The memory of him hunched over the buttons console in despair, raw and full of hurt comes unbidden.
“...What is this place?” She asks instead, relieved to see that his shoulders slightly sagged down as if in relief.
Jax cracked one eye open and glanced lazily toward the far wall.
“No idea,” he said. “Just another one of those rooms.”

Summary
Life if the circus is not very interesting for the imprisoned cast members. Even though this is the case, Jax is not a sad lump about it--no, he's a moody prankster that entertains himself with mischief and other less than savory methods of distraction. One day, circus life changes for him and everyone else when the new girl shows up, and he finds that she is exceedingly more interesting than he would have guessed. He unexpectedly starts to indulge in her presence because it doesn't make him want to barf or break something, and she seems to be receptive enough to the formation of a friendship. None of the others thought him actually capable of being a decent, friendly person, accepting the innocent and ignorant Pomni. Fortunately for them, the little jester is actually much more aware and perceptive than they assume her to be, and she becomes the catalyst for changing the standard of living for all in the circus. Well, he figured out she's not as innocent and ignorant as he'd thought.

Summary
Jax thinks he’s in control. He thinks he can hide his panic behind the same old mocking smirk. He leans toward her, radiating that irritating smugness, and drops the line he’s sure will make her back down:
"Oh, please. You want to kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid."
But Pomni has no more patience for his deflection games. She looks him in the eye, strangely calm, and changes the rules of the game forever:
"I don't look stupid... but I do want to kiss you."
A story about what happens when the master of manipulation is left speechless, and the jester decides that, in a world where nothing is real, a kiss is the only thing that feels true (even if it happens on the floor in a bathroom).
