Summary
It’s been fifteen years since Gordon put away the game for good. He packed up his life in New Mexico, moved up the country and got a real, fresh start in life, new job, new friends, the works- all was well. He doesn’t think about the people he left inside a video game after promising he’d get them out. It was just too painful, and at one point, it felt like it became too late to go back. He eventually forgot about the box that he stored the VR headset away in all those years ago, collecting dust and waiting for him to return.
Well, maybe he can’t entirely forget it, but he’s done a damn good job of ignoring it.
At least, until Joshua finds it.

Stupid Gordon Freeman and his soft looking hair and endearing laugh and dadbod. On top of that, he was a dad. What the hell was up with that. This was just uncalled for.

Benrey didn’t even realize they’d said that out loud until Tommy’s chest started shaking underneath them in soft laughter.
“What?” Tommy said, his hand stilling in Benrey’s hair.
The advantage of having a generally monotone voice and not being super expressive was that usually, Benrey could bluff his way out of most of the stupid shit that accidentally came out of his mouth. “Wha?” They said, hoping Tommy would let it slide.
Of course, that advantage was usually negated by having a best friend who was well-versed in his idiosyncrasies and could definitely fill in the blanks to explain the wack thought process he just went on. “Did you just call Gordon a DILF?” Dammit. Tommy was laughing at them. What the fuck. 0/10, worst best friend moments. Uncalled for.

At some point after ejecting himself and his AI friends from the worst-case scenario that was the Resonance Cascade, Gordon had become accustomed to Benrey’s presence in his life, and was mostly at peace with his inhabiting of Gordon’s Playstation console (and phone, and computer, and microwave…). That didn’t mean he didn’t have questions. Trying to parse the ways in which Benrey was and wasn’t like another human person became something of a fixation, though he couldn’t say why.
During a sleepless night, Gordon's curiosity, affection, and sexual frustration get the best of him. An escalation of playful bickering ends with him jerking off on his Playstation as a proxy for his digital roommate/friend(?).
As one does.

Benrey doesn't really care about much- he doesn't have a temper, nor a sense of personal justice- he just wants to play video games with his friends. He doesn't even take his own video game's world seriously, which is why Gordon killing him never really bothered him.
But when Gordon tries to keep him from the co-op he loves so much by not bringing him with The Science Team? Well, that's just too far.

Benrey’s time with Gordon each day could have been so much longer if only that idiot didn’t need to be asleep 50% of his whole damn life. Benrey wouldn’t have had to lay down on Gordon’s couch every night staring at the ceiling or jacking off or playing shitty FPS games over and over again if Gordon would just get over the whole “catching Z’s” thing. Benrey tried, he really did, to pick up every human behavior he could, but sleep had continually evaded him. So every night they went through Gordon withdrawal, and he didn’t know how the hell to cope.
