“Dean.” Cas’s voice is soothing through the phone. “You don’t have to explain yourself to me."

Summary
It's been two months since Cas was taken by the Empty. Two months since Chuck was defeated. Since Jack left. Since it became just Sam and Dean. Again. Back to basics. Dean should be happy. He thinks he should be happy; the world has been “saved.” The ultimate enemy has been defeated. But he isn’t happy.
Eileen convinces him to do something for his birthday. Nothing big. Just a pie — not cake — and some pizza.
“Can we dig into the pie now?” Dean sticks out his bottom lip, playing it up. This may be the most he’s talked in months, but the dinner has been fun, teaming up with Eileen to tease Sam always lightens the mood.
"Hello!"
All three adults in the room startle at the greeting and turn to find Jack standing at the top of the kitchen stairs, his hand raised, a small smile on his face. “I brought someone with me.” He moves out of the doorway and Dean hears the familiar sounds of shoes on concrete before he sees Cas step around the corner.
AKA: Two months after Castiel is taken by the Empty, Eileen and Sam pull Dean enough out of his depressed state to celebrate his birthday. Dean’s birthday present ends up being the return of Jack and Cas.

Summary
Returning his gaze, Dean is startled to find that Cas has closed the distance between them. He focuses on the bright blue eyes in front of him for a moment, and then it hits him. A literal flash of genius.
“Dude, yes. Get in me.”
Cas narrows his eyes and tilts his head in confusion, “Dean. There isn’t time for...that."
Dean bites back a chuckle. His lip ticks up into a lopsided smirk, “Cas, I’m the Michael sword. I’m a strong vessel. Get in me and I’ll keep you safe until we can find a way to get your body back. I’m saying ‘Yes’.”
Or
Dean says "Yes" to Cas as a way around the empty deal. Cas rides shotgun in Dean's head through 15.19 (the finale doesn't exist because it shouldn't). This is the equivalent of locking the boys in a room together until they talk about their feelings...only the room is Dean's brain.

To keep Earth from being scorched and born anew, Team Free Will needs to complete an interrupted spell, reset the intentions of said spell, and unfortunately, a figurative virgin symbolic of the Earth needs to be 'fertilized' by the very literal celestial body of an Angel.
Don't worry, though, they've got Angel cuffs, and the Angel cuffs certainly will not fail. 'Cause that'd be nuts.

Cas stares at him, searching his face. After a moment, his own face falls slack, eyes widening just so. "Oh," he breathes out.
Dean wants to be furious that Cas has figured it out before he has—whatever it is—but he's not even that surprised. Cas knows him too well, always has, even more than Dean knows himself. He's been kicking Dean in the goddamn teeth with how deeply he understands him, even about the things Dean doesn't, ever since they first met. You don't think you deserve to be saved, that's what Cas had said. All bundled up in impossibilities and power, this being that looked at Dean Winchester and knew every single inch of him, as if he had a right to each part.
"What?" Dean grits out.
"I love you, too."

Both of them lower their guns but don’t put them away, yet: there’s no sign of a struggle, but the guy did just break out of an insane asylum by squishing an orderly. With a bureau that he shouldn't have been able to move. "We're not gonna hurt you. We're here to help. My name is Sam. This is my brother, Dean."
There's a loud silence. Dean can hear the wind rustling through the structure.
A deep voice suddenly speaks up. It’s coarse and raspy and sounds like it hurts coming out; he’s never heard anything like it. It sends shivers down Dean's spine.
"Dean?” the man asks. “Dean Winchester?"

While on lunch at Dean's new part-time job, he is driven out of the museum breakroom by his incessantly annoying boss. He seeks solace on the roof of the building with only a few gargoyle statues for company, and is especially drawn to one named "Castiel."
Dean soon finds himself spending all of his breaks on the roof, talking to the statue. As time goes by, he even starts to view Castiel as a sort of confidant.
But everything changes during Dean’s first night shift.
